I have tried, and tried, and asked for help..

Hello Peter,
My name is Courtney and I am with Epson advanced product support.
The only improvements made from the previous version were to make it compatible with the newer operating systems (Windows 8). All features and functions of the Epson Scan software are the same on v3.921 as they were on v3.81.
To install the new version, you'll have to completely remove the old version before installing the newer one. Doing so properly requires you to use the following procedure;
1) First disconnect the usb cable from your scanner and shut it down. I have attached two files to this email. First is an MSWord document with instructions on how to run our registry cleaner. Be sure to read over that entire document before starting this procedure. Next, remove all previously installed Epson Scan software via your Control Panel>Programs and features.
2) Follow the instructions, step by step as outlined in the MSWord doc., then open up and run the second file attached to this email, which is the Epson Scan registry cleaner. Once completed (should only take a few seconds), be sure to clean out the 'Temp' folder and rename the Twain_32 folder as outlined in the MSWord doc, then restart your computer.
3) Once you're back up, be sure to disable any anti-virus/firewall or any other security software you have running on your computer download and install the Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility directly from the Epson website using the link below:

Once the software/drivers are installed, connect the USB cable to the scanner/computer and power it on. It should automatically install/update the drivers and you should be running the latest version.

Apparently there no changes, except Win 8 compatibility added
But, OMG... what a procedure to un-instal and clean the Windows Temp folder before I can instal the update..
This is the ONLY software update that "Requires" a full "Uninstall" and the cleaning out of the TEMP FOLDER .... Before I can run the Update file!!!!!!
What are they thinking..... ??
anyway, if anyone has updated from 3.81 to 3.921,
are there any other fixes that where not mentioned?
Was it worth all the trouble to update it?

Well, I sent my post (w/o the letter), and I got this reply

Peter,
As I explained before, there are no significant changes to the software versions 3.81 to 3.921. If your scanner is working fine, then updated from 3.81 to 3.921 is not necessary.
I provided you with the advanced software removal/reinstall protocol so that I would be certain you would not run into any issues should you have decided you wanted to update the software. That procedure is typically used when customer are experiencing software/driver errors or crashes.
Again, if your scanner is working fine, then you have no reason at all to update the software/drivers, as the newer version does not have any added features or functions.
Should you require further assistance, please reply to this e-mail. If you have a different support issue, submit a request via our Support Site and we will respond in a timely manner.
