I see a lot of posts about people using 35mm or wider for street photography. Just curious if anyone ever uses a 50mm.

I recently discovered that I really enjoy 50mm for street.

I shoot a fast (f2) 300 for street....

No way I'm sticking my camera in anybody's face. That's what I think of street. Safest place is over a half block away. Smile Please (yell here)

Just a personal opinion: I find the 50mm a very boring lens for street photography and it looks more like spying or voyeuring. I like using a 28mm and getting close because the shots are more interesting and how I see the world. That being said, I have seen great 50mm shots and it has it's applications (if you want to feel safe, not take a risk or find a composition that is suitable for that focal length), but it's just not for me.

safe or not is to the shooter's feeling. for me, i found 0.72 or less mag viewfinders are safer since people through the vf is smaller. but i prefer 50mm and 0.91 finder for "wysiwyg", dumb me

50 mm y-shore!

When out on the sreet in my city, the chances are good that I will have a Bessa R or a Canon P with some kind of 50mm screwed in front. Which one is hard to say ,but a 50 will be there.

It takes too long for me to focus a 50 and even a 35 on the street for quick snap shots. I prefer a 15, 21 or 25 set a hyperfocal distance for subjects approx. 6 feet away.
