anyone using a light wand?

i have a couple of light bowls that house florescent bulbs...i like continuous lighting more than flash...plus it's cheaper and since i don't use them often my wallet likes them as well.
but these light wands fascinate me...lightweight, portable and can be battery operated so they are highly flexible for indoor or outdoor use.
2 of these and you're laughing!
and if you really want to go cheap they can be had at automotive stores as work lights...
so, anyone have experience with them?

I used to use flash blubs, big ones so that I would be able to paint with light. I would move them in an arc and the look was fun. The time it take to ignite and the duration of burn were MUCH longer than electronic flashes.

The key is keeping the camera still (read tripod time). LEDs have come way down in price and way up in output for energy used.

Have you tried an on-camera video LED light? They are dirt cheap, the light output is enormous, batteries last forever, and some let you dial-in the temperature. eBay is full of them, here's a cheap one from B&H.
