No, though I use Qimage - both for the upressing and the layout facility - a nice package that uses the , now generally very good , native driver.

Colin Jago over at auspicious dragon has just posted on Image Print.

I am using QTR with the Epson 1400 and MIS black and white inkset, and results are really good. I use black-only about half the time. Prints from Lightroom and PS are gloppy and awful by comparison, at least with my setup. I just got in some nice papers (incl. Hahnemule German Etching) and will try to make some super nice prints this week.

The nice thing about QTR is how easy it is to control how much ink goes onto the print. You can test on various papers and see precisely how much is just enough for each.

Imageprint is awesome. I used it with my 2200 for years and it made a huge difference in black and white. Even with custom profiles I couldn't PERFECTLY neutral black and white prints, but Imageprint did and they give you free profiles for Imageprint for just about every paper out there. I don't use it anymore because my 2200 died and I replaced it with an R2400. My copy of Imageprint won't work on the R2400 so I'd have to buy it again, but the advanced black and white mode on the 2400 is nearly as good as Imageprint, so I may not buy it...I can't afford it now anyway. I'd say if you have a 2400 then don't spend the money but if you have a 2200 then yes it is worth it.

Thanks everyone. mabelsound -QTR offers a trial so I might look into that. Chris, I have the R2880 which has the advanced B&W printing. Hearing the advanced B&W is nearly as good as Imageprint is a great piece of information, thanks. Imageprint is expensive.

Your 2880 is newer than my 2400, and the BW mode was said to be improved. I think the results on mine are equal to what I got with IP on the 2200 as far as tonality and print color, and the prints have finer dots too. So, yeah I think IP is a waste of money for you. I did notice on my printer that I have to use the LIGHTER mode in the advanced BW controls to get prints that matched my screen, while IP gave perfect prints with no adjustments, but that is a minor quibble and an easy setting to make.

Yeah, QTR is effectively free--they ask you to pay 50 bucks, but the "demo" is 100% functional. I paid, but if you're poor, it is certainly no crime to try it out for a long time.
