I have a Voigtlander 50mm bight line finder, the round metal one. When I look through it the frame lines show up fine. The area they outline is covered by the square front mask. I have to put my eyeball basicly right agaist the finder to make them appear in the unmasked area and then the view is distorted. Is this normal for this finder. It's bright and clear, just the lines are covered by the front mask and outside the view.

I find it works best if I position my glasses just short of touching the viewfinder. In practice it's fine because I'm concentrating on the photo. If I'm sitting at home looking through the viewfinder I can find problems with the view. Hope this helps.

The 50 is the only 1:1 finder I have, and it's the most picky one to use. I place my thumb on the body under the finder and rest my cheekbone on my thumb. It's about the only way to keep the right distance without constantly brushing and greasing up the finder..

One would think a microscope maker like E Leitz had a clue about eye relief, but it's not evident in the SBOOI (50mm) and SGVOO (90mm). If I just about scrape my cornea against the rear element of these finders, the full BL glory is revealed. In general, shooting with a 1:1 external VF is sublime. 🙂 Still trying to score a Kontur 35mm.
