anyone using contax G lenses on xpro?

i came across what seems like a good quality metabones contaxG>xpro adapter recently on ebay. i contacted the seller and he said both the 21 and the 28 can be used on this adapter without modification of the protruding protective 'legs'.

i am skeptical about the veracity of this claim, and additionally wonder if these lenses will suffer the same fate IQ-wise as seems to be the case with WA M lenses.

so, any xpro users shooting with G's? tell us your experience.

28 to 45 g lenses fit fine. The 21 with fins i was not able to get on. It could be manufacturing tolerance related issue... U maybe able to attach.. But be very careful.

35 and 45 work fine. 28 does not appear to me to be as sharp as what I c on film... Ymmv.

thanks so much gary, appreciate your reply. i guess folks arent so worked up about using these great lenses on the xpro....i wouldve thought their use would be hot behind M users. thats too bad about the behavior of the 28 as many feel its one of the best 28s ever made.

Tony, maybe you can think about using a two camera setup, that's what I ended up - GXR for MF lenses, m4/3 for native AF lenses (+Pen F and Contax G, since they cannot be mounted on GXR). AF cameras are just built differently for different purpose, look at NEX7 and XP1's sensor for example, I don't think the makers are really trying to capture the M/MF lens crowd. The 10x only magnification and EVF with slower refresh rate will definitely make me pull my hair out when I am trying to manual focus a 50mm lens on XP1, regardless of corner issue.

thats definitely a good thought alex, though using olly m4/3 for last few years--it only has magnification as focus aid--ive gotten pretty good at that kind of focusing! i guess i'm finding it hard to give up on that great xpro sensor, but i'll probably have to if i want to keep my MF lenses.

So may I ask...

Are after a universal digital back for your mf lenses and have really no intent on using the af lenses from Fuji? To my eye I find that for my purpose the native glass from Fuji is as good as any of my legacy lenses..but this is just me ymmv.

I am mainly a wide angle to normal guy for over 80% of my pictures, so 2x crop factor has always been an issue for me for m43 when it comes to my legacy glass🙁

In general, Fuji xp1 for legacy lenses seem to do fine from 35 on up in terms of rf designed lenses. The key really is how close that rear element is to the sensor really governs which wide angles will work. Most issues are really associated with the corners, the center is sharp.. U are going to have to decide for yourself how much u can live with...

For example, I am perfectly fine with the cv 15 on the xp1 and lol, the Konica 21/35 actually is sharper on the xp1 then when I used it on the Konica rf... I wonder if it needed shim adjustments now?

Other APS-c cameras to consider then..

Ricoh gxr for Leica lenses
Sony nex5n if u are looking for universal digital back.. People say nex7 is not as good. However I dislike the Sony user interface design...

I have both of these camera systems.. The Ricoh has a 35 cron on it 90% of the time.. The only reason I still have the Sony is really because it is a good universal digital back.

I have mainly been experimenting with use of legacy lenses on xp1 for fun but also to fill in on portions of the lens range that do not have available yet.

The Fuji xp1 and x100 end up being used more than the Ricoh gxr... The nex5n only occasionally...

Hi, have you had the oportunity to try yourself the G 21 or 28 lenses with the Metabones adapter on the XPro1?
I have the same lenses and I am very interested to know if it fits without cutting the legs.

no, i havent, but see above as someone else addressed it. i think to have any chance at it the 'legs' have to be removed, but i certainly couldnt guaratee it would work even then.
