I cant seem to get my sandisk 12 in 1 card reader to mount on the system. The profile shows it but I cannot see the external drive anywhere? Anyone have this problem with an IMAC?

hmm... where exactly do you have the external card reader plugged in? the keyboard usd ports often will not have enough power running through them to use. most usb readers will show up as a drive on your desktop with the camera's name (if you've formatted your card). sooo... try doing a search for (while your reader has a card in it) the specific camera name as it might be showing up somewhere else instead of the desktop.?

I'm with John here, do you have it plugged into the back? Also, is the card in correctly? I know that sounds obvious, but a compact flash card I have doesn't always seat correctly in a sandisk reader I have.

Is the Scandisk Mac compatible?
You have to have a card in the reader for the computer to detect it..
I had problems with my Scandisk so I switched to a Cameramate reader that is compatible with Mac..

I forgot about this. Some readers require the card to be upside down in order to make proper contact..

Yes, do not use the keyboard USB. Other than the desktop, you should also be able to open a Finder window and see it on the left side. It'll have the "eject" icon next to it. Do you have iPhoto or any other application setup to activate when the computer senses a digital camera or a reader? As much as I'm not a huge fan of iPhoto, it's my digital camera import application. It has seen every digital camera I have ever attached to my Mac, even when I didn't want it to, without fail, to the point of distraction.
iPhoto bouncing in the Dock when I attach a camera is a good sign.

Jorge: I have an iMac and a digital concepts 9in1 reader. Plugged into the computer itself (right side back). MOST of the time when it has problems it is because the USB cord has worked slightly loose at the card reader end. Occasionally the card needs to be removed and reinserted.
As mentioned, card readers need to draw power through the USB cable. So they also will not work via a "hub" unless the hub has its own AC-block power supply. Unless of course the card reader has an AC power supply itself (most don't).
With my reader, the process is:
Insert card. An LED light should come on on the reader, and then start to flicker as the data connection is made with the computer. If no light comes on, that's the sign that the cord is loose (no power). If the light comes on but doesn't begin to flicker, that's the sign the power is OK but the card is not making correct contact.
If the contact is good, an "external floppy drive" icon shows up on my desktop in the upper right (Or as close to it as the other icons will allow) titled "NoName" (at least with SD cards from the M8). Inside that are the DCIM and 100LEICA folders for the pictures.
My home 9in1 reader requires that SD cards be inserted contacts-up, face-down. The 2in1 MS/SD reader I have on my PC at work is the opposite.
