Anyone Using Legacy Pro Rapid Fixer?

In an attempt to cut down on costs, I bought some Legacy Pro Rapid Fixer from Freestyle instead of my usual Kodak rapid fixer, and was wondering if anyone here is using it, and how you like it? One thing I might mention here to help others.....always research the cost of shipping on liquid chemicals. This fixer came in very large bottles, and the cost of shipping it was almost as much as the fixer! I would have gone w/ a powder if I had thought this out beforehand. Hopefully the shelf life of the unmixed fixer will be quite long, and I can just pour out the stock solution as I use it up and mix new stock, which should mitigate the shipping costs. Hopefully.

I'm sure it's fine.

I currently use Formulary TF-5 for film and paper.

Its only disadvantage is that it's not a hardening fixer, but the films I use are modern emulsions with intrinsic hardening agents.

I had thought I'd used that before, but mine was definitely a powder fix, so I guess it must've been something else.

I use the Legacy Pro rapid fixer. It's fine. Even with shipping it's cheap enough that I have recently started to use it sort of one-shot.

Three-shot I guess is more accurate. I've used a two bath fix for a long time, my three shot is. Mix new fix for fix bath no. 2 (1 part fix 9 part water). After used for bath 2, it goes into the bottle to use for bath number 1. After bath number 1, into the bottle to use as stop. After stop, toss.

I do 15 to 30 sec in the stop, 5 minutes in each fix bath. Works great, cheap enough, and I don't need to keep track of fixer capacity. I haven't been using this sequence for too long yet, but I'm only buying about a gallon a year, so fixer is down in the noise compared to other costs.

Excellent. Sounds good. I appreciate the info, especially the details you posted Mike. I never do a two bath fix for film, but for fiber paper I do.

That's an interesting point on the hardener, as I always add that to my Kodak Rapid Fixer for film. I'll ck the negs to see if I see any difference using the new fixer. I tend to be a little rough w/ negs in the enlarger.

I use the powder version. It seems to be as good as the Kodak as far as I can see. I like their Dektol version of paper developer too.
