anyone using the 60 macro?

Tbarker hated it because the af too slow for his work. But this was before the 2.0 fw update.

I have it and really have not used it much, just not had the opportunities. It is a sharp lens, but still the slowest of three in terms of af. It is nature of beast considering it is a 2:1 macro..

I like the XF60. Obviously not the quickest to focus (substantially improved with FW 2.0), but it's sharp and versatile and does well for a number of things. Landscapes, product/studio stuff, portraits, florals... A great allround lens if you can live with the "slow" aperture. Will never be an exiting exotic like the 1.4's but a solid performer nonetheless.

Fantastic lens and really top notch performance. A focus limiting option would be appreciated, so it doesn't hunt so much. But yeah, slow-ish AF due to the contrast detect. The copies I have used focus past your intended plane of focus and then adjust. Seems odd. I prefer to manually focus this one for that reason.

after using f4 lenses on a regular basis...f2.4 seems fast to me...

It's more that it's equivalent in DOF to a 90mm f3.5-ish lens in 35mm terms, and whilst impeccably sharp all over, it's totally devoid of character. That can be a good or a bad thing. Without the hood, it's tiny - smaller than a 50mm DSLR lens, and because the front element is recessed it doesn't really need the hood in normal shooting conditions.

that hood looks rather large all right.

i sometimes think a lens should be neutral and the photographer is the one thing that should have character...

the 60 could be used for mostly close-up work and the new 56 could be the street portrait lens i want.

do we know when the 23/56 are scheduled to be released?

Joe,

It's designed as a macro lens (even though it's not a 1:1 lens). Are you interested in macro work?

i have a passing interest in close up work...not true macro...like bugs etc.

if i can control myself, i think i'll wait for the 56...though someone has contacted me about trading the rd1 for the 60 and i might do that...
