I'll be arriving in Santiago, Chile tomorrow morning (Sunday) for two days, and I'm planning on catching a bus to Valparaiso for an afternoon of photography. I'll be shooting my Fuji X100. I was considering taking a 5DmkII and three lenses, and then decided to shoot in the style of the great rangefinder traditionalists...one lens, 35mm FOV.

Since I've never been to Valparaiso and will be a gringo traveling alone, I was wondering if there are any RFF members or other shooters who are local in Santiago who would like to go on my day-long adventure and enjoy shooting, wandering, and some food and drink.

Posts here are fine, but also email me at david.manning@me.com, because of the short notice. I leave the states tonight and arrive Santiago tomorrow morning. I'll be checking my email in the hotel lobby tomorrow morning before I depart.

Hope to hear from someone.

Well, I knew it was a very short lead time...I was just hoping that I'd catch an RFFer down south with no plans.

Please email if you catch this post.

To continue my personal diary post :) I ended up meeting a local photographer in Santiago who responded to an email on Flickr. He shoots a 5DmkII so I brought mine down too. I'll take the X100 next time.

Valparaiso is a great city, and I walked around all day. I spent the majority of the shooting with a 28mm lens, though I used the 50mm a few times for people portraits. I took a few detail shots with my 85, but I could've left it at home. I don't think I would've missed much with the X100 option at all, except for a few times when the streets are really tight and I couldn't back up...in those cases, the 28 was almost too tight.

Since this is a RFF, I'll only include two shots as an example of what I saw there...so I don't offend anyone. It was a great short day-trip from Santiago in any case.

As an aside, I shot a selfie in a mirrored window with my new Chilean friend who shoots a 5DmkII with a grip and a 16-35 zoom. My mkII and single prime looks nice and compact next to it. So, I'm not sure small and nondescript has to be solely the purview of RF camera bodies. I guess I'll include that shot too for comparison...it gives me confidence that I can shoot quickly and travel light with a dSLR too.
