Have been running into a bad spate of luck with old lenses apparently...Just bought a lens that was rated at mint+ from a trusted online dealer and seemed pretty happy about the deal. Quick checks didn't show many problems other than the ones stated. However, today I pointed it up against the light and carefully scrutinized it and found the following around the lens edges.

Anyone can comment what is going on here on the sides?

Do that with a new digital lens and be shocked 🙂 . I never do that as i always get shocked ...
My Canon 16-35 II L had specks from day one. Forget about it and shoot 😉

Not the specks that are bothering me 🙂 It is the marks around the edges. I'd be okay with it if it was pointed out to me beforehand. However, I paid for what I believed to be a "mint" lens. The seller's words, not mine.

That ain't mint if you ask me as far as the glass goes.

A silvery or rainbow circle on the outside edge of a lens can be separation of the elements; it also can be residue left over from careless cleaning - hard to tell from photo.
