aperture and dng?

Guys, I'm a bit bemused if it would be possible to scan negatives via vuescan as dng files and import them to apple's aperture to process them to jpgs for flickr.
don't get me wrong here, I used lightroom 2 (didn't like the importing function at version 3 btw) in the past on a win pc, but now switched to mac (not 100%, still keep the pc running).

is it possible or do I need some quirky converter first? 😕

not exactly answering you question, just couple of observations: i don't have scanner but i use dslr + macro lens to shoot BW negatives. Aperture and mac works good with this because:
1, for quick negative/positive preview you just have to hit ctrl+alt+apple+8 keys and all the screen goes negative/positive.
2, you can set in aperture curves to be inverse, i mean first point from left down to left up, and last point from right up to right down (by typing in the values) and that will give you basic negative/positive conversion. after that you can add another curve over that to have more control. watch out also for "gain" parameter in raw conversion settings.

Check first... While Aperture does support DNG, it does not support DNG from everything. For example, it does not support raw files from my EP-2 converted to DNG. There is a tech note somewhere on apple.com that explains the details.

It seems one might have to convert the file from vuescan through adobe dng converter before it can be used in aperture? 🙄

Why not just save as Tiff? DNG is based on the Tiff format with extensive metadata information attached. If Vuescan isn't going to add any metadata what's the point of it all? Does Aperture support Tiff format?

Save it as a tiff. DNG for a scan is not required. I use A3 for exactly the function you are inquiring about. Works great. Aperture has a Much better filing system than LR2/3 imo. You may be able to do the vuescan DNG's. I have never tried and don't see the purpose to do so as compared to using a Tiff.
