My eight core MacPro was aging and I decided to switch to a much faster/energy efficient system. I'm now using a Windows 8 based system and have made the move from Final Cut Pro-X to Lightworks, but have yet to migrate my Aperture library.

If you have made such a move, I'm open to suggestion.. other than "don't do it". Also, open to any suggestions as to how to setup Lightroom 5. My present Aperture library is around .7TB.

Thanks in advance....

I switched the other way so my experience is generic but perhaps worth thinking on.

I moved all my files into Aperture. On reflection wished I had kept my previous work in Lightroom and used Aperture for new pictures. Maybe that doesn't work for you as you swapped your system not just the software.

If you wish to include all your old files in Lightroom, my advice would be to export your Aperture files into folders by year (or whatever timescale fits) and keep these as an archive. Bring them into Lightroom as separate libraries.

Assuming you have starred your favourite shots in Aperture, I would export the best ones again and create another library of your best images only. That way you can keep your picks. Do the same for developed TIFFs. That way your keep your developments. It make take a while!

Finally, assuming you still have/are keeping your Mac I would resist the temptation to delete your Aperture libraries and leave them intact. That way you can go back and re-do the switch if you have any regrets about how you did the move.

Hope that is helpful. Good luck with however you do it.
