Apo Summicron 35mm

It looks like this has been announced but I can’t find the Leica announcement.

10 elements in five groups, four aspherical surfaces, a floating group for close focusing correction (it focuses to 30cm), plus six elements of partial anomalous dispersion glass. Leica claims that it is a true apochromat and diffraction limited. $8195 at B+H.

The 30cm close focus is perhaps an admission that ‘M’ lenses are increasingly not used on M cameras. I use an M camera and the rangefinder a lot of the time and find lenses that focus closer than 70cm incredibly frustrating. I’m not really in the market but this alone would stop me from even contemplating getting one.

I saw this on the other Leica forum earlier today, along with a short Jono Slack review.

It is actually a beautiful lens in every way. It's so much smaller and cuter than the CV lens. The filter diameter is 39mm. Just lovely. And the images in the review appear to have no faults (but I'm no expert!!!). I think the APO lens is even smaller and nicer than the ASPH version.

Price appears to be ~$8500 retail. My wife is complaining hard that I want to get the CV 21/3.5 at a much, much, lower price. So....I think I want one, but I'm not likely to get one 🙄

Seems like there's a haptic detent, similar to the close focusing LTM Nikkors, where the focus decouples from the rangefinder.

Lenses like this have nothing to do photojournalists for long time.
Two great Canadian photogs whom I could call as photojournalists and who are here at RFF are using M43.

Pictures in this video are perfect illustration what Leica has become on its expensive end of the gear. Nothing special portraits and regular close up dross which is taken with mobile phones.

Yes my thoughts similar; Nice, but not justifiable in cost.
0.3m close focus has existed for a long time on other non-RF pocket and compact cameras ; 0.5m on my voigtlander 40/1.2.
I think I can suffer through life taking pictures of my lunch with a phone.

Well if nothing else I think Voigtlander timed this to perfection... Getting their version of a 35mm APO to the market immediately after the very well received 50mm APO and immediately before Leica followed up with a 35mm for 8x the price.

I had significant concerns about this before I bought the 35/f2 Ultron (58cm MFD) but I'm yet to come across a situation where it's been an issue with my M2.

The minimum focus distance shorter than 70cm drove me to frustration when using the otherwise stunning (preferable to the Leica counterparts in a lot of ways) Zeiss ZM wide angle lenses. But that's just how I photograph.

I love haptic detents! My 25mm Snapshot-Skopar has three of those!

It's got to be a killer lens, but so far I've been happy with my 35mm Summilux ASPH and Summicron ASPH. I think I will go on being happy with them.
