App to scan photographs

Free App from Google to turn your smart phone into a photo scan tool.

I also put the app on my iPad and it works with that device as well.

I just tried it out. Works well and could be a handy way to share (lo-res) photos.

I like the feature that if I'm on the go I can scan something.

Maybe a restaurant menu, photo, recipe, documents, forms.

At any rate, a new way to use my iPhone.

I tested the app by scanning a couple of Polaroid SX-70 prints; they're always hard to scan or photograph due to the very shiny surface.

It makes a 7.5 Mpixel image of the whole print and does a good job. It's equivalent to about a 715 ppi scan, and at 360 ppi output resolution will make a print that is about double the original print size. The reflection reduction processing does a pretty good job too.

It's a lot faster than a flat bed scanner, if a tad fussy to hold the iPhone steadily, and the print resolution of SX-70 doesn't make me feel like the originals are losing anything in the process.

Not bad at all.

I suppose you could mount the iPhone on a tripod.

But I like it that I can carry it with me, phone in pocket, and use it on the go!
