I used Apple's Aperture software interface to order a 20x30 print I had scanned from a 35mm b&w negative and thought I'd quickly pass along my thoughts.
First of all, I'm in Texas, so I'm sure it's a U.S. based third party doing the printing. The upload and ordering were seamless...in fact, it's been the easiest process for photo print ordering I have ever used. Since the interface is software-based instead of online, it's fast and smooth. Uploading was a breeze on my hi-speed internet.
The print was shipped on November 23rd, one day after the order was placed. I received it yesterday (November 30th), nicely packed in a triangular shipping tube and wrapped in tissue paper. Total was $14.99 plus tax and shipping ($21.32).
It's printed on 20x30 Fuji Crystal Archive paper...I was afraid it would be thin poster paper. It appears absolutely neutral black & white...no toning. I'm very satisfied.
Info on the scan...35mm Tri-X scanned at 4800 dpi on an Epson 4990 flatbed in highest-bit. Prepped in Photoshop CS2, and sized for 20x30 at 240dpi. Uploaded as a large grayscale jpeg.
