Apple reveals the best Night mode photos shot on iPhone

I fear for the future of the digital camera.

Why fear? There have always been many different kinds of cameras, with different capabilities and uses. And there have always been many different photographers, each with his/her own vision, skills, etc. These smartphone photographs are delightful, yes. Do they make you think that because they are great that there is no reason for other types of cameras to exist?

I don't subscribe to that point of view. To me, this simply means that I have another camera that I can use to do my photography, when apropos to the situation I want to photograph.

I like to take snapshots with telephone. I never get anything like it in the link. I don’t know how to edit images to look like those. It feels like it was processed after image was taken.

Telephones already replaced snapshot cameras. This is already over. It is time to realize for those like OP what people are buying cameras because those are not telephones.

It might look very impressive (and it is quite impressive) until you download the photo and open "actual" size. Then you see - it's still a smartphone. Sure, very capable, but it has its limitations. Many people will be fine with what a smartphone can deliver and surely they won't need a DSLR or Mirrorless, but not all. And it's been always like that. Back in film time some were shooting with MF Rollei or Hassy and for some a cheap disposable film camera was "good enough" (or good enough for a particular purpose).

It is OK to use a phone camera along other cameras. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I have two 24"x36" canvas prints being delivered tomorrow. One was shot on 35mm Ektachrome and the other with a smartphone from 2018. Definitely curious to see how they compare. If the difference at that print size is negligible who really needs anything more.

I just see the actual size of those iphone 11 night mode photos and it is miles away from what a full frame sensor would give. So yes, I still need more. And I am not alone, I believe.

Canvas isn’t exactly a high resolution print medium though...
