Well, the weather is beautiful here in the Northeast USA. Just in time for the Tax man!
I have a lousy accountant, and I am getting hammered by the IRS!

I get nothing for my tax money. Where is my health care, good school for my daughter, etc,,,,. Debt, debt and more debt for the good ol USA eh, and nothing to show for it except 800 military bases al over the world and an empire collapsing from within.

How does this relate to the M9 for me? Well I am just going to wait for it. I want it now, but the IRS is taking the lions share, so maybe sometime later. My M8 will have to do. I may even buy a second hand one in light of my situation.

So how many of you out there are dealing with Uncle Sam right now, and is it weighing in on what you want to purchase from Leica?

For those of you overseas, how does this situation look to you?

Just thought I would cheer everyone up before April 15th! AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!

If you think that the amount of taxes you owe is due to your accountant somehow overpaying, why don't you either file yourself or hire a new accountant?

I noticed a month or so ago that my company had the wrong National Insurance number. I've been with them for nearly 10 years. I hope I don't get botty-banged by them for 9.x years of NI contributions.

Most stupid of all, two weeks ago I wrote them a letter telling them of it. I am waiting...

I'd rather live in the USA than, perhaps, Somalia where one isn't likely to find a USA military base.

For my tax money I feel I have the privilege of being a citizen of the USA. For all its faults it is still a very desirable place to live. Not many are sneaking out of the USA to live in Mexico.

There are better places and worse. A lot depends on what you want from life. Some places that look better to one person might look worse to another, and vice versa.

For an overseas view of the IRS, when I lived in California for five years I found them to be helpful, with a reasonably clear tax code. They have grotesquely exaggerated powers, it is true, and I've no doubt that there are a few quite nasty people working for them, as there are for all large organizations. But I never found anything to complain about. That was as a freelance with UK and US income, and quite a lot of travel, which is a lot more complicated than being an employee. France is as easy. The UK is more difficult: as Frances phrased it, "Taxation by negotiation."

Cheers,

R.

Ho .. that’s not good, not as bad as the vat man, but not good, if you’ve not read that story of Oedipus being pursued by the Furies then now is, probably, not a good time to start

I'll steer clear of the politics. If you truly feel your accountant is to blame for your tax liability, today is only April 7th, you still have 8 days to find another tax preparer and get the taxes redone. As for myself I'm grateful I had to pay taxes this year...means I made money last year. Regardless of that, I still consider the cost of an M9 beyond what I'm willing to spend on a hobby camera, which I'm certain I'll be able to buy for many thousands less in a couple or three years.

If you want your cheap oil then you have to pay for killing all those poor folks around the world.

I feel sorry for you that you're going to have to wait to buy that luxury/jewelry/most expensive RF in the world.

Since when is an individual responsable for the actions of their government?

I just can't see why anyone would complain about NOT being able to afford an M9, especially with an M8 in the wings.
Either way, I don't see this thread ending well.

if you have to pay taxes then either you make too much money OR you don't have enough withholding taken out of your paycheck. married with dependents and still have to pay?

lets not start with how the US is imploding from within. it's already sad as it is and this forum and our cameras is our solace that takes us away from the world in the interim.

No, see that would involve doing something rather than just complaining on the Internet.

Are taxes in the States horribly complicated or something?
My tax deductions automatically come off my pay. All I do is fill in a few boxes online and submit my return electronically. Taxes this year took me five minutes- had my return in barely two weeks...
Granted, I am a frozen Canuck and a single guy to boot...

it is not complicated at all. it only gets complicated when you have itemized deductions, properties or with a slew of things that offer tax "benefits" or your just trying to cheat the government...

This happened to me and the revenue just swapped the payments over to the right NI number, and then gave me a tax refund, which was the first I heard of it! After all, you have been paying the government all along.

Wrong tax code (which has happened to me as well...) is a different matter, come payday, not even to be able to take a tenner out because its ALL gone on back tax without any warning is a bit of a drag. Not sure if that was my company's fault or the revenues...

Always. It's your government, isn't it?

I live on US soil, but I don't control it and I don't get a say in any government matters nor do I condone what it does to/with other countries. I simply live here. Lumping people together and making assumptions about the people of a country based on its government has gotten the global population in trouble for way too long.

Paycheck... paycheck... what's a paycheck? I know I've heard the word before somewhere...

Cheers,

I disagree, with all respect -- "simply living" somewhere and pretending one has nothing to do with what happens around one "has gotten the global population in trouble for way too long".
