APS Film photos might suprise

After looking at the APS photos on flikr, there's really nothing "wrong" with the format. Big prints may be limited as well as DOF.

I don't think so. Example:

And this one looks very good at 50x40cm on my wall.

Hi,

Chase the Contax Tix and you'll be pleasantly surprised just how good they are (and how dear and how impossibl to get repaired).

Funnily enough, I've had all the ones mentioned here and think the cheapo Kodak T550 is a pretty neat toy with some nice glass/plastic on it. Followed by the Rollei Nano 80.

The expensive ones, excluding the Contax Tix, were - I thought - over rated.

And the one that no one has mentioned by name is the Minolta S-1, which is a neat SLR with a nice range of lenses. But look at dct's examples...

I have a Canon IX (the SLR) I bought new for short money when they were discontinued, from a shop that was closing and clearing out their inventory. It was a fun camera to shoot in the auto modes, and nice and small and light. Still have it, but haven't dealt with the hassle of APS film processing in a long time.

I also had an original Canon Elph, but it was stolen out of my car. Very point-and-shooty, it none the less produced good results. Loved that nice soft leather case, and of course the tiny size.

The first roll of APS I scanned myself, I dissected the cartridge and jerry-rigged the film into the scanner. After that, I bought an APS adapter for the film scanner I had at the time (a Nikon, LS-30 I think). It worked great.

APS was pretty much the first casualty of the digital revolution. I think the format was OK, useful in some respects but not great. It was just totally redundant with yet less convenient than digital. It got a bad rap from "serious" photographers that spread thru the general public, I think, also.

Hi,

You should look in charity shops. In my country they usually have one at least once a month. Usually for pennies but they sell quickly.

Picked up another Canon IX for $18.99 of E Bay free shipping to boot. I loaded it with film put one of my Takumars on it and went to the flight museum. I also took along my Canon 70-200 2.8 L series. I modified a film dev spool and selv dev when I got home . Scanned the images and Walla!!!!! Sharp pics .

Have an Olympus Centurion ZLR (zoom lens reflex, as Olympus called it). Takes very nice pictures with ED zoom lens, but haven't used it in a few years.
