APS in the 21st Century?

Hi,

Well, um, if you've two lenses you'll need a second body for back-up, B&W film etc. I mean, like, you've hardly started; there's the large holdall, the individual case and the macro lens and then there's that nice SF-1 flash gun...

Regards, David

PS. I feel better now; a problem shared is a problem halved.

Just picked up a Canon Ixus II from a heap of cameras at a local charity shop. secretly, I was hoping for a Mju II, but you take what you can get at £1. Needs a new battery, and I've got some APS cassettes en route, so we'll see what I can get with a stylish handbag-camera.

Disclaimer: I don't own a handbag. ;D

No need whatsoever. If he tires of it, I'll take it off his hands.

Meanwhile, he's planning to take it up to Camden on Sunday where he & his mates hang out. I expect him to shoot the entire film in one go.

Having said that, though, last time we went out with our SLRs, I shot a complete roll of 24 exposures, and he took three photos. No chimp, I have to give him credit for that.

Dang! No CR2 batteries in the house or any of the shops I've been in. 🙁

No loss to carry it with a film in to work tomorrow and try some other shops...

Shame that autofocus is banned from the $40 Challenge, as $1.50 (or thereabouts) would be a cool entry. 😉

Hi,

The worst part of battery hunts is that the minute you buy one you spot dozens of shops selling them and all cheaper.

There's a fixed focus Canon Ixus, the FF or similar. That might be ideal for the challenge, or the XA2 or 3 or a Trip 35 or Yashica 35-ME (better imo).

It looks as though the anti GAS tablets are making it worse. And your reminder to look in the charity shops has forced me into buying a Minolta Dynax 500si Super for a small fortune. Luckily I had some loose change in my pockets and so could break my "never more than a cup of coffee" price rule.

We are a very bad influence on each other.

I couldn't find any CR2 batteries near London Bridge, either, sadly. Didn't mind; I was having fun with my new Trip.

With the Paxette, S1, Trip & Ixus, I've bought too many cameras lately. But I'm glad I have them.

Good luck with the S1. Having all lenses and most of the accessories I'm also using my bodies extensively at events from time to time, just like I would with a 135 SLR. Best is, the Vectis SLR share the highly sophisticated flash protocol from the Dynax/Maxxum SLR series allowing simple but pro style off camera flash gun control.

Of course, I have a freezer with enough 240 film.

Hi,

I'll second that, a nicely designed and made outfit that people often overlook. And a bargain as well, although finding the correct lens caps so that I have spares is a pita: LF-146's especially.

The Canon EOS IX was my first auto focus camera. I purchased it at a close out price with a pair of Quantaray zoom lenses. All of my Canon lenses were usable with a similar "crop factor" to APS C digital cameras. The high cost of the film and processing caused me to retire the IX a while ago. My first film scanner, the Canoscan 4000US, had an APS adapter. I still have the camera.
