APX 400 and Rodinal, pushed

I shot a roll of APX 400 at 800 (in the QL17) and only afterward consulted the conventional wisdom on the 'net about N+1 times or opinions, etc. Thank you lucky stars!

Everybody says cryptic stuff like "is no good" and "not worth try" and "barely 250" about this combination; I found no suggested times at all. So I souped it in Rodinal 1+25 at 24C (76F) for 13 minutes with 10" agitation per 30" to maximize the pushed look. The surprise was that the tones were actually quite subtle and I needed to increase contrast after scanning the whole range. The highlights were pretty tame, no solid highlights at all except for point light sources. I found it a nice pictorial look.

Probably everybody else around here has already learned this lesson, but I had a nice time learning that there's no rule says you gotta follow the rules. 😀

yep, looking good. I used to shoot Agfapan 400 @ 1600 Asa and develop it in Rodinal. Don't know the exact times anymore, but I do remember that I used a very dilute developer (1+100 or 1+200) and just left it for half an hour or so (no agitation). Didn't check the temp either. That was in my younger, bolder years (I have since bought a thermometer and a timer, and have become rather obsessive about the correct temp, time, and agitation cycle 🙄 )

Still, it's nice that I now (some 10 years later) read about standing and semi standing development. When I was 15 or 16 or so, I already applied this without knowing about the techniques (I was just being lazy and careless! 😎 )
