Just got my first Zeiss Ikon ZM. Anyone have a Arca Swiss Style camera plate that is compatible and that won't mark up the base plate. Can anyone recommend one? Let me know. Thanks

You might find something suitable at Really Right Stuff or Kirk. One reason they work so well is that there is no rubber or other soft padding that is often supplied with tripod heads that is supposed to protect the base but has the effect of allowing movement. Both companies have some general purpose plates with a slot for the screw. This allows the small ridge to be against the edge of the camera base which stops the plate from twisting and becoming loose.

RRS and Kirk

I own a lot of their stuff for my Canon and Fuji X system but they don't have anything for a Zeiss Ikon. They have Leica stuff but that doesn't help.

Still looking for a solution.

RRS has altered their web site making it harder to look through a list of all plates. I have some of their general purpose plates like B6 and B9 which work well with a range of cameras that aren't too huge. The flange is placed along the front or back edge of the body and the screw tightened. The flange stops the plate rotating. A little rotation is why plates can unscrew spontaneously.

I looked at Kirk's site and I notice that they have some general purpose plates with cork or other pad to prevent damage to the base. In my experience, the pad allows movement, both of the camera on the tripod and eventual loosening. The plates I saw there did not have the ridge to prevent rotation, so I would not recommend them.

Assuming the tripod socket is in the middle of the camera and not at the end like a Leica, you'll need just a simple universal plate. The Wimberley P5 is the best one I've come across. The ProMediaGear PX3 runs it very close though and is a bit less expensive. You'll need to check the plate dimensions to make sure they're not too big for your camera body.

There is a chinese company called fotopro that makes a tiny little arca swiss compatible plate for a tripod X4Ie. They sell replacements for it.

There is a company from Vancouver called Cotton Carrier that sells hand straps with a tripod mount included for like $20, The plate included is a nicely machined arca style plate, and you get a hand strap out of it as well if you have a bigger dslr or 4x5 ect.

I don't think there is a commercial one.

I were you, I would buy a grip and a universal plate.

Well I got the grip so now I feel better about a generic plate. In the past some of the non skid material used actually dimples the bottom plate of camera. I'd hate to fo that. Also with the grip the tripod mount is now in the center so that helps as well.
