Are any of you using a Olympus Pen D-2

I have a Pen D which I believe is unused. Certainly, I've never used it anyway. It is complete with the little soft leather pouch case, original plastic bags (the little wrist strap is still sealed in its bag ) and there is what seems to be a chrome flash bracket arrangement to attach to the tripod bush as well as the instructions booklet, and a silica gel sachet. All this is in the original box ( which is unmarked ) which is itself still enclosed in the outer two part corrugated card packaging. I've just unpacked it to check if it mentioned if it was a "2" but it seems to just show "Pen D" only. The selenium meter still gives a deflection across the meter scale ( ASA up to 400 ) even by the dim light of my reading lamp . I've had it for a few years having been given it by a friend (he collected Leicas ) who has since died so it has a sentimental value for me as well as being a bit of a curio in this condition and also a handy book - end. Perhaps I should try a film through it ? I too would be interested to hear of any user's experience with this rather minimalist item.

I think you should give it a try, if only in honor of you friend.

Ps I just noticed this was your first post i am a bit of a new commer but i wish to welcome you to a great photo-camera forum

Thanks Holgaguy for your advice; I may just give it a try, bring it to life as it were. After all, without film it is just a curiosity of no purpose. I suspect that my friend would be surprised that I hadn't done this already. Oh, and thank you for the welcome. I'm currently just listening and learning!

If it has a selenium meter it is a Pen D. The D2 and D3 have a CdS cell. I use regularly a Pen D3.

The Pen D series are excellent cameras, the top of the Pen non-SLR line. You will be surprised by the lens quality - it matches the best of all cameras I have used, including Leicas and Zeiss-Ikon Contarex.

Sorry for not answering before. I missed this question.

I believe it takes a mercury type. I use an alkaline on mine and it meters more or less in the ballpark. Maybe it was adjusted for the different voltage, which would not be hard to do.
