Curious to know if Canadians are buying their film in the USA, because the Canadian Dollar is almost one for one against the American Dollar? Chrome is considerably cheaper in the USA, as well as other films. So are you? :D

Seven in Ten Canadians now use a Digital Camera

In a recent study investigating the picture taking habits of Canadians, seven in ten (68%) respondents told research firm Ipsos-Reid they typically use digital cameras (66%) or camera phones (3%) to take their pictures while one in six (17%) typically use film while 14% said they do not take pictures.

The study, which was paid for by Kodak, also found that Canadians are snapping a lot more pictures but still using traditional means to show and share them.


As one might expect, usage of digital cameras falls among older Canadians. Almost nine out ten Canadians aged 18 to 34 (87%) reporting that they use digital photography, compared to three quarters 74% of Canadians aged 35 to 54, and 44% of Canadians aged 55 and older (compared with film photography at 27%).

What the study does not say is if the Canadians know which end of the camera to point at things. Which is how I suspect a lot of Canadian self-portraits get made.

"Gee, hon, that trip we took to da USA, dere, all I got are pictures of me!"
 
I've bought my film from B&H for years. Even when the Canadian dollar was lower it was a better deal to buy from the US- BW400CN is $8.49 cdn from London Drugs and it's $4.69 from B&H.

I worry about heavy x-ray scanning at the boarder, though.

Hi Mark,

In the last 2 years, I don't think I've bought a single roll of film in Canada! I mail-order my film mostly from Freestyle. I also look for deals on e-Bay - usually the sellers are either from the US or from Hong Kong. I live in a border town so when I go to the USA-side, I will buy some film while I'm there - usually BW400CN and 400UC at the Walmart. I wouldn't mind buying film from a Canadian business but I find the prices here way to high.
 
I always buy film in Canada unless I happen to be in the U.S. Realistically it's not THAT much more expensive and I prefer to keep my money in my own economy when I can.
 
Velvia 50-135 @ B&H $6.20 USD, Vistek.CA $12.49 CAD, not including local taxes. It is expensive in Canada, I know it is a smaller market though.
 
Maybe we could enter into a perscription-drugs-for-film arrangement with our Canadian brethern....

I've purchased some film from the U.S. I got good deals on some Delta 100 (at about 1/4 the best price I could find in Canada) and some bulk Pan-F.
Agfa Silvertone films are dirt cheap in Canada. A 24exp roll of either 100 or 400 is about $2.50.
And I've been buying my HP5+ (36exp) for about $6 a roll (taxes included) .
 
How does $1 per roll of 24exp. 100 speed colour neg film (likely rebranded Fuji) including processing and prints sound? And I have it hand delivered to me by a double agent living in the US! :)
 
Fran: You got to let me know about your super duper super deal that only a secret double agent from Nova Scotia/Alabama could have delivered!
 
Sorry Raid, availability is limited. Just check your supermarkets and department stores for discounted colour neg film.
 
I'm going through my C-41 I bought from B&H and I've had no problems with border xraying so far.Italo C

Raid: The secret double agent is an Ontarian, has only been in Halifax once in his/her life, and accepts suitable quantities of cabernet franc as payment. Real ale will do in a pinch.
