Are photographers more like Jedi's or Cowboy's?

Jedi and Cowboys are more alike than either are to photographers. Perhaps I am missing something...

Sorry to be a killjoy, but am I the only one who is bothered by the two mis-uses of the apostrophe in this post? (Also, while I'm being the grammar police, the plural of Jedi is simply Jedi.)

Your comment is too intelligent for the internet! My apologies however. (Though "misuses" doesn't need a hyphen, so we'll call it square 😉)

Ha! Thanks for correcting me, too! Even, indeed. And thanks for being a good sport with my grammar policing.

Anyway, to answer your question- is it a cop out to say some of us are Jedi, and some are cowboys? I've seen both. Personally, I often try to be invisible- or as close to it as possible- when I have a camera in my hand, so I'll have to go with Jedi. (Besides, I'm terrible with a lasso, but put a lightsaber in my hands and you'd see real magic.)
 
most photographers think they are jedi's but in actuality are more like wookiees. they make a lot of noise but are not good at communicating their ideas. 😉
 
Jedi and cowboys are from the same group as ronin. Jedi are based upon both cowboys and wandering master-less samurai. Historically, the ronin and cowboys existed simultaneously and so affected cinema in the 20th century which gave us the child of both, the jedi.
Enough of my own cinema geekery.

This is my camera. There are many like it but this one is mine.
My camera is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life....
(Many of you know the rest but we don't kill with cameras)

I voted Jedi. Of course, I was a NASA Space Shuttle astronaut for halloween yesterday... By the way, this is a great thread! It's just what I needed after a long stressful day at work. I can't "fracking" (BSG reference) believe I learned that the plural form of Jedi is "Jedi". Hilarious!

ahah now you're making me think... Yeah I suppose Jedi* and Cowboys are similar. But Lucas based the Jedi off Samurai right? So it's all about tradition, training and perfecting ones self, a sort of religion. Whereas cowboys are more carefree, I'll do whatever I want, maraud or liberate depending on their individual moral compass.
 
There's a lot of methane in the middle of a herd of cattle ... so I'd have to say 'cowboys!' 😛
 
haha In what manner are we to apply this analogy? I don't want to be a killjoy, but I suspect many of you may think I take Star Wars too seriously, that's okay. Take what I say with a pinch of salt.

I don't believe photographers are inherently similar to the Jedi in philosophy or in manner. Being a Jedi is much more than a job or hobby, it is a way of living. I've observed some photographers--gear fiends in particular--are more like the Sith as opposed to Jedi or cowboys.

I don't think Jedi have traits that are inherent (other than much higher levels of midi-chlorians), they must be cultivated and there are not many people trained in the way of the Jedi. I am not referring to the ability to interact with the Force, but a number of Jedi hobbyist [sic] lack the commitment to the way of the Jedi. Perhaps I have yet to meet practising Jedi as I'm not involved in any Star Wars communities (e.g. forums, role playing groups, online games etc.) but very few people I have met have experienced the serenity as a consequence of sound logic, reason, and control of one's emotions and desires.

I am not all too familiar with cowboys as I haven't seen enough spaghetti westerns, so I have no comment on the matter.
