Are these cameras really THAT unpopular?

While above said is cetrainly true for retail prices in Europe, I don't see such a big difference with used prices from private sellers. Online auctions made it all global.

When Ash bought it I thought that he shelled out too much for it.. it's certainly understandable that one wouldn't want to lose half the price when reselling it.

It's all a bit of a vicious circle, stuff costs more so the people who drive the lorries to take it to the shop and the people selling it also need to be paid more. So everything costs more. Talking with EmilGil last weekend - I'm just thankful I don't have to buy anything in Norway!

Hope you camera sells Ash, but I wouldn't expect to sell anything for what I bought it for - I'm sure you've enjoyed it the time you had, no? Consider the drop in value the "hire charge" :)

If the hire charge for the camera was nigh on £100-£200, I wouldn't have bothered :D

Maybe I overpaid. The price seemed about right to what I was researching at the time of purchase. American/overseas prices were no cheaper after postage and customs.

What we, downunder, call the "Streakers Defence".

"It seemed, my lord, like a good idea at the time!"

Some Aussies might recognise the reference. Keith?

Streaking is an Aussie tradition ... I remember years ago a mate of mine decided to do a streak through the beer garden of a well known hotel on a saturday afternoon ... the bouncers grabbed him and locked him in the coldroom until the police got there ... which took an hour. His bravado had shriveled somewhat by the time they let him out to meet the feds

You should keep your contax II

You should keep your contax II

I have a Contax II and a Leica M5. If I had to sell one of them I'd sell the M5.
I am sure I'd never sell the Contax II !

That's cos M5's are ugly, and C-II's are sexy :D

I'm gonna see how the auction goes; if I have no joy and I'm strapped, then I may take offers. But seeing as there's no interest due to yanks having such a brutal purchasing regime, maybe that won't happen either ;)

I'm on my way to the post office now... would you like my bank details and my M2 as well?? :D

Well 1 $ = 1 GBP, if you have to buy anything in the UK, some times it is worse, the credit squeese in the US only improves things a little, here. If we were not in the war things would be better, Se and Sw have the right idea.

I was real impressed by the camera priecs in the Copenhagen high steet shops, one camera was 3x the UK price, it must have been as new.

At least the EEC means we dont have to pay import duty on Ge cameras, any more, just the VAT.

Not quite sure what you mean here Noel. At the current exchange rate 1GBP = 2USD, or do you mean that the prices are proportional. ie. a $250 lens in the US, is 250GBP in the UK? If so... I'd be ordering alot from abroad. Even with VAT, you'd come out ahead.

You got it the exchange rate only works for green backs, anything else is dearer x2. Stephens (bartender) prices are really sharp, the problem is shipping and other costs, if you want to cheat on IR (customs) you can fund the air fare on what you save. It is not just the photo gear. But similarly a Se visitor opened his suitcase and it was like a Russian doll, another suitcase, he dissappeared to our shops which were cheaper then his, life is sad, and then you discover other people are worse.

In emergency care dripping blood into large box of tissues, I worked out that the people 'queue jumping' on trolleys with IVs, might be worse, and that the staff were not worried about me, I could still stand up and offer my seat to a lady who was ill, drip drip drip.
