If I could find a dSLR that could properly use my my Canon FD mount lenses (in addition to modern AF lenses), I'd swap over.

Been using a Canon FTb since I bought it in 1975. At the end of 2002, on selling my M3, VT Deluxe and their lenses, acquired a Canon EF so that I would have a second body for my 3 FD lenses and 1 FL lens. But last year the RF bug came back to bite, and I now have a IIIc, a Zorki, and 4 lenses for them. Like them all, but the M3 was the love of my life.

Purchased my first new camera, on credit with a cosigner in '74 or '75.
Nikon FTn. It was swell.

Began with a Konica Autoreflex T3 and the Hexanons 28mm, 50mm, 85mm (f1.8, the heck of a lens) and 200mm in the mid seventies. After 20 years and two shutters it was definitely gone and since then I used my wife's Nikon F-301 with 24/2.8, 50/2 and 105/2.5 Nikkors.
A few years later I bought a Konica Auto-S3 at the fleamarket - which was a lemon, but gave me the rangefinder bug. A Canon VT dL, a Bessa L, Leica M6 and other rf bodies were aquired in the following years.
The Nikon SLR has not seen much use since. Bought a cheap T2/Nikon-mount 500mm/f8 lens at the same fleamarket recently, just to play with and try some animal shooting in the mountains. But as said, rangefinders make more than 99% of my shootings.

I have a Nikon D70s and didn't think I was much into the SLR thing in general until I picked up a couple of Olympus OM bodies and lenses cheap. Now I'm obsessed with my OM and the 28mm lens. So small! So sharp!

Sold Pentax spotmatics to get Leica M. Added Leica R later. Still use both M & R.
Still not sure of Digi except for P&S.

Workin' my way through the film fridge
i started back when the choice was...
300D or D70
and of course D70 won, and i bough a bunch of nikkors. But now...suddenly lusting for better ISO quality of Canon and lower price lenses.

My first SRL was the Nikkorex F (approx. 1965) follewed by my black standard prism Nikon F in 1968. In 1984 I swapped Nikon F for a CLE (40 rokkor) and then in 1985 I sold the CLE in a panic because it was discontinued and I was not able to find the other lenses. It was the biggest blunder of my photografic history.
Then came Ebay and I have recently bought both the Nikon F (same model-I use it with the ZF planar) and the CLE: the homesickness was hurting me to much.
This does not mean tha I only use Nikon. I use Contax (RTSIII) and, more rarely, Minolta (Max9) and Pentax (KX)
I never owned a canon. The last film cameras were aestetically ugly for me (I am very sensitive to this side of photography) and I dislike the washed out signature of Canon lenses (I remember a pro using sandwitches of 6 filters on a Canon. needless to say the results ware unearthy - something I hate most).

I used Pentax for a while (K1000, ME super), but I decided to stick with Nikon. I started seeing what sort of finish they had with an inexpensive EM, then I picked up a Nikkormat EL.
Aside from that... A Zenit XP and a Kiev 88!

Nikon SLR user. Bought a Nikon FE and 50mm f1.8 series E lens in 1983.
Still in use and still my main camera. Thought about changing it over the
years but never found anything as good (except perhaps Nikon FM2n) but I delinced
& kept my FE and added various lenses over the years.
Because of the solid build and manual focus I was ready to get the FM3a as a nutural replacement.
However I went for a Leica MP also with 50mm f2 summicron, which I've since added an A&A half case.
Over the summer and autumn this new camera (MP) is getting more use
but I'm not as proficient yet, as I am with 23 years using the Nikon FE.
Still its good to walk around Dublin these autumn days at lunch time
or at dusk after work and practise, practise, practise....
Next decision will be either to add a 35mm VC f2.5 skopar or 90mm f2.9 Elmarit M,
though I never used any lens wider than my original 50mm f1.8.
In many ways with Nikon pulling out of film cameras I'm glad I bought a Leica MP
hopefully this will (with good care) last me as long as the FE or indeed outlast me

I'm a canon fan. The plastic bodies on teh eos's might not seem to glam but they are tough. Great performance on the EOS cameras and I love that you can geta mint eos 3 for under $350 used and such a good camera too. I have grown used to the handling so cannot see myself leaving canon SLRs now.

I dont have any canon lenses with washed out signature! Surely the pro sticking half a dozen filters on a camera has more to do with the results than anything else?
Both Nikon and Canon have lenses of varying repute, but I think whichever manufacturere you choose, both has some cracking lenses. My std canon lenses are pretty good. My 135 f2 L is astonishing. It is the sharpest lens I have ever seen, personally. I am sure that Nikon has portrait lenses that are close or as good, or in other FLs perhaps better than their canon equivalents. Some used to say the Canon long lenses are better and teh Nikon wins for shorts. I dunno if this is the case tho. I do feel that Canon is a touch ahead when it comes to mass producing new technologies, such as image stabilisation (vs Nikons VR) and a touch ahead on digital....not that I shoot digital.
