Are you a fisherman or a hunter?

This was a phrase I came across a while back on the internet and I thought it might make an interesting discussion here. When you are out with your camera, are you more like a fisherman or a hunter?

Do you wait and see what happens, then shoot if something comes along (fisherman)?

Do you go out with a thought or idea in mind to capture and work to make it happen (hunter)?

I am a little of both but find that I mostly look for photo opportunities - I guess I'm a photo phisherman.

Hunter. But generally what I go out to get doesn't pan out and something totally unexpected comes along.

The way I fish is much like the way I shoot. But I am not the passive fisherman you describe. I "prospect" when I fish, putting casts where there are fish, or at least hoping so. In practice the experience of fishing and shooting are alike for me.

Definitely a hunter since I work on specific projects. Once a project gets going I have a pretty good idea of just what I am looking for. So I go where it might be, when it might be there.

I support this. As told in another thread: I need/have mostly a project running, if I go out to photograph. And this is mostly envolved with hunting for the correct moment, the light, the pray, the slaughter... 😱

Ok, forget it: just hunting.

Good one! As opportunities present themselves, I may use my fishing rod as a spear. So as many have indicated, it's a bit of both fishing and hunting rather than one or the other.

I'm a fisherman by your definition. But I never wait for a shot to come along, I never stand in the same spot unless I'm waiting for a light to turn green.

I do some of both. If I see something that I think may be better in different light I will come back and look at it another time. I also just drive/walk around and look to see what I find and take some shots and move on. Jim
