Shooter of Film...
More like a Hiker...I've got my gear and I head out...if something crosses my path that I like I look for an angle to see if I can catch it...I mostly go out without an agenda so I'm open to most anything...

spot and stalk is a suitable tactic for some fishing and some hunting. see the light, go towards it while seeking the best final approach, then shoot/cast ...

I hunt, but - more often than not - come home with fish.

More like a mermaid. I just wait for them to come to me.
Haha, kidding. A fisherman. I'm very quiet and I just wait for the right moment. If I miss it, no worries, there are plenty of fish in the sea.

Definitely a hunter since I work on specific projects. Once a project gets going I have a pretty good idea of just what I am looking for. So I go where it might be, when it might be there.
Example: I know my next photo will be in two days, on Sunday between 11 AM and 1 PM. It will be:
* inside the "Holy Ghost Headquarters of Jesus Christ" church in South Apopka
* shot with a 40mm lens
* shot at f1.4 @ 1/60th (photographed there before, know the light)
* many shots will include the 23 year female drummer in the foreground
* try to include the "Heaven or Hell" overhead banner in the frame
* will attempt to convey the spiritual feeling that church attendees receive.
* will be 2-3 rolls of film
After that, I know my next photos will be the following Sunday at the "Temple of Faith", a pentecostal church. I already know I will be pushing film to iso 800 to shoot at f1.4 @ 1/60th. And, I can already see the photos in my mind.
I probably will not be photographing any cats in the house, flagpoles, or interesting looking people between now and then. I already have too many singular images that simply have no home.

that's a nice plan, Bob. fervent pentacostal worship is too often mocked by outsiders; i'm not pentecostal, but i do appreciate the dignity and honesty in your approach ...

Long term fly fisherman, but usually take the camera and have had many a good wildlife shot, especially when loch fishing from a drifting rowing boat.

I plan 'hunting trips', in between which I 'fish' along the stream of life, just for daily 'sustenance', because the 'food' I manage to store from the hunting trips never lasts long enough.
Metaphorically speaking that is.

A guy I used to work with has a great hunting story - he and a buddy were out hunting in the north Idaho area near the Canadian border, where natl. parks supposedly put the "bad bears".
At one point they see a grizzly a few hundred hards away, and soon the grizzly is getting closer and closer.
They get their guns and eacy empties all their bullets into the grizzly, but it keeps getting closer. They are sure they hit the grizzly dozens of times.
They get in their truck and start driving away from the Grizzly, and in a few minutes, they think they are safe.
Then as they are down the road, the same Grizzly, bleeding comes off the side of the road into the road in front of them.
The Grizzly swats the front of the truck, demolishing the bumper, fender, windshield, etc.
They barely made it out alive.

I explore. I ride public transit and walk seeking out new areas and neighborhoods I haven't been to, side streets, alleyways, old buildings, with my camera in hand "hunting" photos without any specific project in mind.

There is something fishy about this story ...

For me, both. For work, I'm a hunter: I already know what kind of photos to make and how it should turn out. For personal pleasure, I walk through the streets looking for something new amidst familiarity.
And yet, when work doesn't pan out, it's time to look for something that was unexpected, or to make the circumstances work for me. And I'm not beyond visualizing a photo for a whole week before tripping the shutter for personal projects. Like this one:

My next photos were yesterday (Sunday) at the Holy Ghost Headquarters of Jesus Christ church as I thought. Things do not always go exactly like this but I certainly do set out to photograph with a plan.

I like to consider myself a sculptor. I work towards a defined goal, but it's all about opening up what's already in the material.

I'm a vegetarian, which would make me a gardener. I relax, watch things grow, and try to pick them when ripe.
