Idea would be to set the whole kit on the heavy Gitzo and start recording, choose positions so that it can cover most of the action unattended. The make-do approach...

A good idea IMO. But not paired with D3100 as it has no mic input. Maybe rent something? A camcorder is not a bad thing for such setup, with small sensor the DOF is large wide open, and those better come with XLR socket for a good microphone. Also they come with IR Remote so you gonna have some control from middle of the action.

Not an easy case, but its doable 😉

Right, I've been looking into this for three days now, and have decided against it. I'm not going to double filming and photography and have been unable so far to find anyone who can shoot video while I shoot photos.

Tomorrow I will be calling the couple and tell them that I can shoot photos but not video, so that they can start looking for someone who can do the filming.

Less income for me, but better results in the photography department!


EDIT: @ZF1, pretty nice video but no Canon monster for me, I have no budget on this job! Subscribed to the channel for future reference though!

rent a Canon 1D-C and cards. Shooting 4K you can pull stills that are comparable to DSLR shots. Win win.

Yeah but I will have indoor shooting too and lots of movement, dancing etc. Moroccan weddings are pretty temperamental, as is the nature of the Moroccan people attending.

I would need something smaller and with a single film light attached, to shoot video. I would never get to those shutter speeds unless boosting up ISO big time... And then there's the learning curve, I'd probably blow my whole limited revenue on mastering it a bit.


Sad but true for now. I did get a lot of good information and ideas from this thread and my research though! Thanks everybody!🙂

I like to do videos with my friends, just for fun 🙂

I use the Fuji X100 (actually I'm only using it for filming, I prefer to shoot analog), but the results are quite good (I think 😛 )

And every time I had to shoot video, I only end up feeling silly and uninspired at all.
Still photography is so much more interesting.

I realize you decided against shooting video for this gig, but since it might be of use to someone I just have to mention the RX100 - well-liked around here for its photo capabilities but equally liked among video people. See for example:

- http://rungunshoot.com/ - This guy is a pro videographer blogging about shooting fast/cheap/light and he's done some quite impressive stuff. Just the other day he wrote about how he shot a whole episode of some MTV reality show with nothing but two RX100s (often at the same time!). For something more, uhm, interesting to this audience (content-wise), he also did a bunch of web shorts following David Alan Harvey around.
