Are you ever embarrassed by the number of cameras you have?

One of my friends asked how many cameras I had and I said 8--I lied. If I told him the full number then he might think I'm crazy considering that most people that own a camera own a digital one and it's either a DSLR and/or Point & Shoot 80% of the time.

35mm: 14
1 P&S
3 MF SLRs
1 AF SLR
3 Folders
3 FL RF
2 Viewfinder cameras
1 Interchangeable RF

120: 6/9 (if you count the backs)
1 SLR (4 backs)
3 TLR
2 Folders

Digital: 3
1 P&S
1 DSLR
1 Phone

Total: 23/ 26

I'm actually trying to downsize my collection...not sure which to let go...

A bit, I recently sold all but 2 cameras because I'd hit about 8 cameras, and a few rarely got used. If I said how many I had, then the obvious "So you collect?" question arises, and frankly, No I don't collect, I just had a hard time not buying cameras.

When people ask I tell them the truth (or a rough estimate)...I get that look from them😱 ...
Then I tell them about all you camera horders in RFF...😎😀

I only own 2 cameras and 5 lenses. Will add the X-Pro1 and a 35mm 1.4 to the mix soon. Not embarrassed because I don't feel I'm out of hand... yet. Anything not in use, gets sold.

I'm not embarrassed by number of ones I use.

I am embarrassed by the number of project cameras I have and the rate I finish work on them. I enjoy doing the work and take satisfaction in it but have accumulated too many projects.

Damn guys, I have 2 and I feel embarassed ! Perhaps I'm on the wrong forum 😛
I have one Leica+35mm which satisfies all my needs, and a backup Leica+28mm, sometimes I still can't justify the price

Not even close to being embarrassed. I have a cabinet to display them in.

Same here; the cameras are a source of pride and not something to be embarassed about. I may have sympathy for those who are not blessed as well to have many lenses to enjoy.

Oh my, at last, a thread with my name on... 😱

OK, what can I remember?

Coronets All Distance, French version, Popular 12 and Dynamic 12 (4). Zeiss Ikon - Box Tengor and Baby Box Tengor on loan, Contina (7). Kodak - Baby Brownie, Hawkette, No2 Hawkeye, Hawkeye Flash, Duo 620, No2 Folding Pocket Brownie, No3 Folding Brownie, plasticomatic cheapie, 127 Hawkeye, No 0 Box, at least four No2 Box Brownies (23)

Nikon - F3, Nikkormat El (25). Werra - 1 & 3 (28). Purma Speed, Special & Plus (31). Voigtlander Vito II & Vitomatic IIa (33). Two 110 clip-ons (35), two OM10s, two Trip 35s and a 35RC (40), Folding and box All-Distance Ensign, two Ful-Vues (44), Kershaw 450 (45), Argus C3 Matchmatic (46), Canon G10 (47), Zenit 12 (48), Balda Baldessa (49), weird Polaroid (50).

OK, got to fifty, let's look at the shelf:
UltraFex Himalaya, Photax Blinde, Edixa Reflex, Welta Perle, Agfa box, Moskva-4 😱, Retinette 1A, two knackered Retinas, VP Twin, Six-20 Box Brownie, Coronet Consul, MayFair, Kodak Instamatic, Ricoh 500ME, Boots 126 Cr*pomatic...

I make that 66, and I bet there's a few still lurking suspiciously that I haven't found yet - in fact I've just thought of another one, a Kodak 620 of some sort. There's also a camera on my phone, but its utility is limited by not having the software to download anything.

So aroundabouts 70...

S**t! I think I may have a problem, especially as I've put at least one roll through well over half of them (not including the phone cam and the G10, though it might be fun to try). Incidentally pics OF most of them, as opposed to from them, are on my Flickr - see sig.

Off to the shrink,

Adrian

Naw. Lots of people have collections of all sorts of different things. I'm only hard on myself when I fall short of being the kind of person I try to be. Having a collection of cameras is nothing to be embarassed about. I have about 60, fewer than 10 of which are worth between 200 and $700. The rest are all worth less, and many of those, less than $50. If I were wealthier, my collection would include more expensive cameras and lenses.

No , not ...
I have 7 cameras , bought new over a period of 40 years . Never sold one . 3 Nikon slr , 1 Nikon dslr , 3 Leica M .

Not at all. Probably should be - but it is a fairly benign obsession. Main problem is that I keep adding to them - but have great difficulty selling them.
OK, I do admit to an excess of lenses - but it is not my fault that often a camera comes with a lens - and for some reason there are more differences between cameras than lenses - hence the 8 or so Rf Nikkor 50f1.4's and 3 Rf Nikkor 135f3.5 - a lens/focal length that I rarely use!
Well, it is probably cheaper than golf or downhill skiing. At least you don't have to have "dedicated" clothing for cameras.

Except for a photo vest. 🙂

I have dozens . I am not so much embarrassed by the number of cameras / Dinky Toys / Lps / etc , etc , but by the dependance upon and the constancy of safe toys to create some respite from ASD .
Every time I try and clear something unused for ages , it's like losing a familar ' face ' or something .
Memory is rubbish generally - execept for ' toys ' .
