Are you ever embarrassed by the number of cameras you have?

No way, it's a talking/bragging point.

Current count (as of a week ago) was 118 cameras / bodies, 26 lenses, 10 flashes, 8 or so different photographic advertising pieces / displays. 100 rolls of film in the fridge

🙂

Not at all embarrassed. I, like a previous poster, have my cameras prominently on display in a cabinet; a large custom floor-to-ceiling cherry/glass cabinet that houses my collection covering 95 years. (18 cameras) My only regret is that I didn't get a larger cabinet!

Do they all work and do you swap them around to use them or just enjoy collecting them? Just curious. A couple of the 127mm shooters I have I really can't get much use out of anymore but I don't want to part with them, they're cool.

My problem is way to many systems. Nikon dslrs and lenses, Nikon slrs and lenses, Canon slr's and lenses, Leica, Voigtlander, and Canon RF's and lenses, Mamiya and Fuji MF and lenses....Wow, I think I need to consolidate.

I learned to embrace this a long time ago. I love each of my cameras for different reasons (Nikon SLRs, Nikon RFs, Leica, Olympus, etc.) and my only worry anymore is that I don't have enough hours in the day (or film) to give them my full attention.

I have 14. And I'm try to sell one. I've sold a couple and trade a couple in the last couple of years, but can't seem to the number to stay under 10.

So yes, slightly embarassed. Even more so when I forget about cameras I haven't used in a year.

And this thread really should have a poll 🙂

uhh, let's see how many I've got. I guess I'll only include working cameras since I've accumulated a bunch of bodies that are for parts only. I'd say maybe 16 cameras or so.

Lets say I am proud... While people my age cry about something with temporary value like a new tshirt new mobilephone the newest sunglasses or something similar I show interest in something classic and have no problem about it. I am a proud owner of 3 TLR's , 4 SLRS, 4M bodies and a bunch of lenses...
Heck when the new iSomething craze passes I'll still be shooting with my gear and enjoying it as i did the first day.

There are only 5 or so that don't work. I stick to a few main ones that I enjoy using the most, and switch between those based on my mood or what I'm going to shoot (not bringing the 5x7 out for candid street shots haha).

For the most part I just enjoy collecting most things photographic. That's why I have the advertising collection, and a decent assortment of darkroom timers as well.

Cameras as machines are beautiful devices. The incredible diversity of designs over the decades is just wonderful. Simple task specification . . "record light on film" (or sensors) . . . look at the incredible range of solutions that camera designers have given us !!

As Kelly Bundy would say . . . "The mind wobbles !"

I have about 50+ and I wish I had the $$$ to have 200+

I'm more embarassed by the number of everything that I own.

My philosophy: "If it's worth having one of something, then it's worth having seven of them!"

I wonder if I'm a hoarder.

Possibly. I've never felt the need of more than one asparagus kettle. Or torque wrench. Or chopping block for firewood. Or...

Cameras are another matter.

Cheers,

R.

Not embarassed at all. Most of my cameras have cost me less than eating out for the night. I use all of them (lost track of how many) in rotation, or depending on what I'm shooting. Some of them even earn me money!

With some articles, one is enough. Not so with cameras, lenses, knives, wrenches, screwdrivers, saws, hammers, to mention just a few examples.

Roger...It's called a Back-Up (Kettle, Torque Wrench or Chopping Block) cause you never know...
I do own more than one Torque Wrench but in my defense one is for Ft/lbs., another for In/lbs. and a third that has a Dial Readout...so there...😀
