Are you in the market for a photo vest?

A photo vest? A travel vest?

I recently got one - Campco's Safari Travel Vest, identical to the old Banana Republic vest. It is well made, just the right length, and cheap at $39.

I wrote a short post about it here

I've got a black Campco Safari Travel/Photo vest. The thing is great. It's got 21 pockets and is discreet enough for me, particularly with a black t-shirt. I've no problem wearing it.

🙂

I got the Domke black one and works well with a black t-shirt - - useful when you need the freedom of movement and fades quickly like their canvas bags. This Campco version looks good. Thanks for the HU Ray.

When you get to EU go to any Chinese shop and get a 'photo' vest for €5 or so.

All this stuff is made in China nowadays and priced up by the big name sellers, the Chinese shop guys sell it for a few € and still seem to make a good living.

Not to hijack the thread, but anyone here used Lowepro shoulder harness + belt in place of jacket? It is supposedly modular, you can hang different number and types of containers for specific outing, use belt only, etc. Their smallest lens container (1S) appears too big for most RF lenses though :/

😛 Hell I can't remember where I put my lenscap when I am wearing garments with a standard number of pockets. I'd look like I'd developed obsessive compulsive disorder if I had one of these!

🙂 That is the one downsides to wearing a multipocket photo vest. I've both lost and found my car keys in my vest. 🙂

Sounds like the SBOs we used to wear in the army. Nowadays they wear LBVs though.

China is a considerably large and diverse economy, and there are factories sourced by MNCs that produce products of much higher quality than some other factories.I believe both Domke and Safrotto manufacture their bags in China, for example.

The country of manufacture is not always a good indicator of the quality of the product.

Jon, considering the price of them over here, how much would it cost to post a few to the UK?

FWIW, this one's made in India.

The quality of the materials and workmanship look very good.

If it is sturdy, that 5Euro 'photo vest' from the Chinese shop sounds like a good buy. Otherwise, it could be an expensive proposition after the pocket rips open and your heavy $1000 lens falls out.

Luckily I dont own such expensive equipment, and if I did, I'd spend a worthy amount on the accessories - so a £100 photo vest is reasonable for £3000 worth of gear it has to carry.

Of course, I'm lucky to have access to a sewing machine, and any cheaper alternative can be re-inforced with further stitching, just in case.

personally I want to get a cheap one to sew into the inside of a jacket. few extra pockets, especially good in areas with pick-pockets or where you wanna be subtle

You guys wear photo vests?!?!

Err... no not at the moment anyway.

I can stash a camera and a few lenses in a standard coat. Trouble is when you don't need a coat cos its a warm day. Otherwise a few lenses in socks or small lens pouches in a plastic bag does the trick. Its still something else to carry though.
