I know it's early, but I wanted to get the word out. At this years' Argus Collector's Group gathering ( May 19-21, Martinsville,Va.) a special event is being planned regarding the 70th anniversary of the Argus A. I don't have any details yet, but will pass them along as they are made available.

Timely note, this month's Shutterbug has an article about Argus cameras.

Funny too, William has one for sale in the 35mm classifieds.

Hey, I just got an Argus C and another is on the way from JoeFriday. Too bad I can't make it to the US in May.

Here's the formal announcement:

The Argus Collectors Group will observe the 70th anniversary of the May
1936 introduction of the Argus A during their Fifth Annual International
Argus Gathering in Martinsville, VA, May 19-21, 2006!

The annual three day Gathering has become the central locus for the
dissemination of Argus Camera information and displays of both common and
rare models produced in the company's "Classical" manufacturing period
which ended in 1966 according to purists.

Workshops scheduled for this year include:

Bob Kelly and Harry Gambino--Argus Corporate History and Evolution
Cheryl Chidester - Curator, Argus Museum
Billy Glass - C-3 Repair, How to do it.
Harry Gambino - Argus Advertising
Phil Sterritt - Argus C Series characteristics by serial numbers
Wesley Furr - ACG site and administration roundtable

Other events:

Book signing by Harry Gambino, author of " Argomania, A Look at Argus
Cameras And The Company That Made Them"

Photo Ops and contest for using original Argus Cameras at the Virginia
Natural History Museum and the US Army Corps of Engineers Philpott Lake.

Wow! 70th anniversary of an RF group. Congratulations to everyone involved.

I have my first-ever brick on its way to me. An old C3 with lots of scuff marks, but still working...

Gene,

I believe you misread the announcement. It's the 70th anniversary of the introduction of the Argus A. The ACG has only been around since 1997.
