Arrrgh :( Help ! :(

Guys..

I sold a few lenses here back in June, just around the time of my mom's passing, and I sent a collapsible cron to Singapore to RFF member "roundg" (Robin) (arrived fine), a black tabbed cron to North Carolina to RFF member "MinorTones" (Mitch) and it arrived fine but the Canon 50mm f1.2 that I sent at the same time to RFF member "Bobomoon" (Young) in Ohio has yet to be seen. All were sent around the June 20/21/22 timeframe.

The thing is, once I got confirmation from Mitch and Robin I just ASSumed that Young had also received his lens (I mean, he's only in Ohio; which isn't that far from Toronto).

Now I'm worried about his lens - has anyone else had any issues lately with stuff coming from Canada to the U.S. or vice versa??

Yes, it is still hit and miss Dave. I would be a little concerned, but would guess that it still most likely will show up.

i have had pretty good luck with shipping & receiving using the canadian and american post offices.

customs is usually the problem for longer than normal waits.

I just received a lens I bought from another RFFer. He's in Toronto; I'm in NYC. It only took about 3 days to get here (via Canada Post/USPS). No problems.

I sent a Yashica D to Florida-it took forever to arrive-over three weeks! At the same time, Frank had a problem with a Leica CL he sent to the States.

I really really really hope the case is that it's caught up in customs or such - I may have to change my shipping philosophy wrt to shipping to the U.S. and state that no packages leave here unless shipped express post - it costs more but at least I know it will get there.

I'm still waiting for an M grip to show up. It has been a few days now. Maybe customs thinks that the -60 was left off of the description. (As in M-60).

Dave , I usually send the vendor a 'cut and paste' of 1) my mailing address 2) a specific description to attach to the package stating the appropriate section of the Canada Customs and Revenue Act. This usually means my package goes thru quickly since it helps customs. I only use Canada Post/USPS for my packages not couriers like Fedex or UPS

I think I have the record for longest time in shipping a Yashica GSN to some poor guy in Europe. Took about 5 months to get there. Of course it did come back to me twice in that time span.

I've had anywhere from 3 to 16 days elapse waiting for shipments between Canada & Texas. It depends a great deal upon how much interest the customs staff take in your package, and how well all the i's are dotted and t's crossed on the forms. Did you put a return address on the package?

Did you put a copy of the shipping label inside the box? If the external label gets torn off or damaged, eventually the box will be opened to check inside.

The Yashica was sent expresspost and took longer than other items sent regular mail! But I could track it's excruciatingly slow progress.

And, Bobomoon is a patient person, especially if you told him it would be there in 5 days.

I recently bought an R3A from a RFF member in Vancouver. I had heard horror stories but I was lucky I guess. It made it to Pennsylvania in 3 days. I think that might be a record. LOL 😀

Sadly the state of postal delivery for any item > $50 is such that:

1) I never ship internationally unless it is USPS EMS (express mail service) with Tracking and Insurance. If the buyer isn't willing to have item shipped that way, he/she doesn't become my buyer.

2) In US, I ship only FEDEX or UPS with tracking and insurance on items of value > $50 (i.e., something I can't afford to lose).

3) On items domestic and international less than $50 (where it is prohibitively expensive to insure and track) ... you just have to say your prayers every night and knock on wood.

4) Canada-US transactions are notoriously slow. I've had an item get from US to Spain that arrived in record time, while another item to Canada took forever to arrive ... all sent on the same day, by the same "express mail service" method.

In the end, just remember that in international transactions, speed is all too often a sliding scale. And a good dose of patience is always a good idea.

I haven't had trouble with post between the US and Canada except for longer waits but recently I've experienced from weirdness from Canada Post. I had a two packages sent back to the sender. One from Russia where I bought a Jupiter-3 and the other from a friend in Macau (China). The reason given was that the sender did not use Roman letters in the return address. The package from Russia had Cyrillic letters while the package from Macau used Traditional Chinese. I can't understand the reasoning because there are many places in the world that don't use the Roman alphabet. Weird, eh?

I also have been experiencing very fast delivery times from overseas in comparison to the US. I got a TEWE finder delivered in 4 days from Australia! Some packages from the US are sometimes taking about 2 weeks to get here after being shipped.

Canada Post requires the customs forms to be filled out in English or French, with translation to other languages optional.

Certain types of packaging cannot be re-used. If there is a language that the mail processor cannot read, how do they know the re-used mailer is safe or acceptable?

These requirements are clearly posted on Canada Posts website.
