I think the custom forms you mentioned are only applicable when sending a package from Canada to another country. There is no mention of custom forms under Postal Imports section on their website. Anyway, I'm just mad about waiting almost two months for my J3 because the Russian sender wrote his return address in his natural alphabet. Well, at least my mail man is nice guy

OK, I misunderstood, I thought you were the recipient of something sent from Canada.

I understand your frustration as I have relatives in other countries whose native language is not English.

I don't have any specific answers, but for prompt business transactions, I recommend that the buyers and sellers are all on the same page as far what languages to use to ensure the product gets to the buyer.

It sounds like your seller was not experienced with sending products to Canada, or the policies changed.

I'm sorry you had that delay.

I recently got a package from Markins (the ballhead company) in the Vancouver area that originated in BC and took 6 days to get to Boston by UPS ground. There were two shipping manifests in the box (which wasn't opened) and an empty plastic holder on the outside of the box which presumably contained a third. I had sent sections of my tripod to have them work on them and there were some new materials in the box. All of this was described in the manifest in some detail. When I sent the tripod parts I got specific instructions from Markins on wording for the US Customs declaration. Neither shipment appeared to have any problems, and both shippers were UPS. It seems the devil may be in the details.

When I received my M6 from England, the (clearly miffed) postal clerk who handed over the package said that if she had received the package at that post office, she would have refused it (sending it back to England) because it was in a reused post office box, which is against the rules. I guess that a lot depends on who is on duty whenever your package reaches the appropriate stations and what kind of mood they're in.

I sold a few lenses here back in June, just around the time of my mom's passing, and I sent a collapsible cron to Singapore to RFF member "roundg" (Robin) (arrived fine), a black tabbed cron to North Carolina to RFF member "MinorTones" (Mitch) and it arrived fine but the Canon 50mm f1.2 that I sent at the same time to RFF member "Bobomoon" (Young) in Ohio has yet to be seen. All were sent around the June 20/21/22 timeframe.

The thing is, once I got confirmation from Mitch and Robin I just ASSumed that Young had also received his lens (I mean, he's only in Ohio; which isn't that far from Toronto).

Now I'm worried about his lens - has anyone else had any issues lately with stuff coming from Canada to the U.S. or vice versa??

Depending on how you sent it... I think that there is a certain amount of time that the sender/recipient is supposed to wait before initiating claim procedures.

I've never personally had an issue with anything sent to or received from the USofA... but I would think that as long as you have your tracking #, and took out insurance on the package... you're at least covered. Still sounds like a pain in the ass in terms of time and effort.
