Cole Rise, an amateur photographer and social media maven known for creating the "Rise" filter on Instagram, recently told CNBC film could return as a novelty.
I would hope that it will be seen as more than just a 'novelty' and used by those that want it for the qualities it possesses over digital ... which are undeniable and unique.
I'm fairly committed to digital currently but I certainly want film there for my use as a photographer if I choose to make that change now and then and I think this is where film needs to be, as an alternative .... not necessarily inferior or superior.
I'll now wait eagerly for the inevitable posts claiming that film will survive because it's far superior to digital ... which is just plasticky crap!😀

Totally agree on both counts. I got into photography only fairly recently (i.e. after the digital movement had well overtaken film), and I'm certainly not about to dump digital in favor of going all analog. Nonetheless, I've recently discovered the joys of going back to film myself and as such I hope that film continues to exist beyond the point of novelty.
Film is still a valid tool for photography with a unique aesthetic. It'd be shame for it to be completely relegated to obscurity by the convenience and instant gratification of digital. It's my hope that the resurgence in film serves to at least keep some major manufacturers in business - even if it's only in a niche area of the market. I'd like for it to be there as a viable option for the forseeable future, even if it's not the one I reach for every time.
