"The expertise required is certainly recognised as they are offering up to a staggering $100,000 per year paid salary.
Good that it is a paid, rather than the more common unpaid salary.

I'll have my application in on Monday.
Former US Navy Seabee combat photographer that specialized in documenting sites and projects for historical archives. Veterans preference +10 pts. Disablity preference +10 pts. Photojournalism degree with a minor in history.
The worst part about this is the prospect of moving near Washington DC. Ugh. I guess I could commute from Philly, it's not a bad train ride and people do it daily.
I'm not a shoe-in but I will give this application a run for its money. I'm certainly competition.
Wish me luck.

I submitted my resume this morning:
Instagram expert with over 130 followers.
Extensive photographer of domestic cats (should translate well to photographing mountain lions).
I mainly shoot on automatic but sometimes dabble with aperture priority.
What do you think of my chances?
But on a serious note this looks to be a great and rare opportunity

Interesting post in how it mingles large format photography and modern technology and standards and methods used for storing/presentation. The LF analog portion is there so if we ever have a worldwide EMP blow out the image can remain as hard copy.
My cousin did the same thing for the LoC converting important speeches from tape to vinyl and digital. Vinyl 45s were about the perfect length for most speeches and had long term preservation qualities. Most of the digital files were on hard drives that were obsolete within a few years.

Is there a similar job opening that requires the use of an M9?

The position requires to you produce museum quality prints, would that be working in their lab, or working with a lab? Making large format prints is a skill in a half....
Here is a large format photographer Clyde Butcher, with a large format darkroom as a reference....

It will be interesting to see who will land this position.

Many of those who are more than qualified will not apply because they don't realize how good they are.
Many of those who do apply will lose out to those who are better at BS than photography.
But maybe == just maybe -- they'll get the best person for the job.
Phil: I don't know if you're the best they'll find or not. But you should certainly be up among the best. GOOD LUCK.
Cheers,
R.
