I just need a bag for a MP+Summilux 35 and Summicron 70 and am leaning toward a A&A Oskar's One Day Bag or Penns Pad & Pencil Satchel. They look like they have easy access unlike by Billinghams (I have the 306, 225 and 335) which I don't use as they are too hard to get stuff out of and also to close up.

My concern is with water resistance. The Oskar's One Day Bag is the one I am interested the most but it appears to be just a flap over the equipment and I think there is a gap between the top flap and the sides where water can get to. With the Penns Satchel, is the zipper water resistant to any extent?

A & A bag

A & A bag

I love my Oskar bag. Plenty of room, comfortable shoulder strap & built to last. I spent two rainy weeks in Seattle and my equipment stayed dry and secure.

I take your point about the Billinghams, but have you looked at the Hadley Digital? I have one and it's perfect for what you describe. I put two M's with lenses attached into it with film, wallet, keys and a light meter in the front pocket. It only has one leather key hole tab to lock it closed instead of two like the Leica branded Hadleys.

Just a thought, as I don't like the zips on the AA bags.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but do you think that the Domke F-5XB is a good choiche for one M body with lens attached (ZM 35/2), another lens (Jupiter-9), lightmeter and some spare film?

I'm thinking about getting one in the coming weeks, but want to make sure it is no bad deal. Unfortunately I can not go to a shop and have a look on it overhere, since there is none.

The canvas and zip on the A&A bags are not water resistant at all. Its fine for light drizzle if you run from shelter to your car, for example. if you get caught in rain for more than, say, a couple of minute it will definitely soak through. I've tried to spray mine with water repellent and unfortunately it doesn't work too well. I now pack in one of my thinktank rain cover so I can wrap the whole bag next time I get caught in the rain.

The PVC versions might fare a little better, but I prefer canvas and don't mind the inconvenience.

That Domke bag will work fine. When you get it, drive over it a couple times with your car or something to soften up the canvas a bit. Beat it with a hammer. Maybe throw it in the washing machine with a pair of Chucks and a couple tennis balls. Domke bags are like good cameras - the more you use them the better they get.

They also aren't a theft magnet like the other bags described in this thread. I am afraid I am with Sonofdanang on this one. Hate camera bags. Strap around your neck, camera in hand. If you need storage while you are traveling on a plane, train, blimp, put it in a Domke insert or a Domke wrap and toss it into your backpack next to your notebook, pen and worn copy of Graham Greene's Our Man in Havana.
