Arts Freedom Australia Protest Rally - Sunday 29th August

I am pretty neutral about this stuff usually, but my wife was accosted by another mother at school not long ago for taking photos of our daughter and classmates celebrating her birthday with home-made cupcakes that my wife made and brought to the school. I have had a pretty good gut full lately of the paranoia and scaremongering that is be perpetrated by the powers that be.

I cannot take photos of my own family enjoying coffee and cakes at a local cafe, but they are free to photograph us with their CCTV monitoring system without accountability or permission. Yes, this just happened to me this week as well.

I am pretty big, ugly and scary, so very few people approach me regarding my photography and if they do, I have no problem telling them which side of law on and the threats quickly evaporate. But threatening my wife and children is ridiculous and intolerable.

Sorry for the rant... just thought that local photographers might appreciate knowing about this event and supporting it.

Having met you I have to disagree with at least one of those statements sorry! :D

On the more serious side ... this rally sounds like a good thing and I hope it gets the support it deserves.

As a society we have definitely lost our innocence ... I was reading the local paper over a coffee this morning and in one of their meaningless glib street surveys three out of five people were in favour of more CCTVs in Oz ... convinced in their tiny minds that it will make us a safer society! :bang:

Keith,

You have not seen me in a bad mood!

I can tolerate(I do not like it) CCTV as long as the rules are fair... you take pictures of me and I take pictures of you... but those rules do not seem to be the norm.

And CCTV footage should be public property, but apparently that is not the case either. My bicycle crash caused by a reckless taxi driver is on Sydney City CCTV footage, but could not be released and used as evidence since it was not a violent crime and not in the interest of public safety. WTF!!! :bang: Another case of my tax money being squandered and used to the advantage of special interest groups. :bang::bang::bang:

The whole world seems to be turning into a 'nanny-state' at the moment. :bang:
