Paul,
I know you have been on the road a lot, and it is expensive travelling, but we really hope you can make it on the 11th!

I'm finally here Dave! I was just reminded yesterday the main reason I've been so scarce lately. My computer at work has developed some sort of glitch that either renders my posts on RFF unreadable or in a dark font so that no one can see them. I know when I type them, they show up in the box here in a black font. I forget what happens when I hit Post.
Anyway...I'm trying to work out my logistics for that weekend. My strong preference is to camp and I'm working on my options as I type. The only problem with camping is I'll probably have to be up earlier than I'd like Saturday morning to meet up with you guys for breakfast. But I'll make it happen...no worries. Any of you old fogies up for some camping?
Oh yeah elude...I prefer red wines! Bienvenue aux Etats-Unis!

I still have NO firm plans.
Being only ~2 hours or so -I may just jump in the car at the last minute.
I would like to get to Ball Photo should I make it up...

Hey everyone, sorry for getting back to you only now.
My phone was stolen last week (I should have been more careful...on a greyhound bus). So I no longer had the Internet but a friend gave me an iPad for my time in NYC so I can keep in touch.
I am definitely still IN but can't leave a phone number at the moment. The 11 is fine with me !

Yep, This is on and it is going to be great.
My office is in the middle of downtown (In the Miles building, 2 Wall St, next to the Flat Iron sculpture) and can be used as a gear drop/place to chill out. You'll need to coordinate access with me of course.
I'm planning on meeting anyone coming in Friday and also hanging out on Saturday. The suggestions in the thread are fine with me, but I'll also look around to see if anything interesting turns up that is off the beaten track.

Sounds great to me mackigator! I'm currently planning to get off early Friday to drive up and hopefully find a roadside campsite in Pisgah. I don't know if I'll want to head back into the city that night, but I'll definitely get up to meet with the gang at a breakfast spot Saturday morning.
I can hardly wait for this!

I'll post events/things worth checking out as I find them. I'll only list things I think are going to be at least a little bit of "extra" interesting; none of these have to be official itinerary or anything.
French Broad Riverfest/Anything that floats boat "race" mid day Saturday (10-2ish): http://riverlink.org/anythingthatfloats2012.htm
The 'fest is from 1 to 7 PM and would be good spot to wind up with a camera.
Many open studios in RAD: http://www.riverartsdistrict.com/whos-open.html
Blueberries should be in up high on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Most common picking area is a trip to Graveyard Fields, about an hour one way.
Beer has become its own world here in Asheville:
Wedge Brewery in the River Arts District - a favorite on any night.
The Thirsty Monk bar downtown - Belgians downstairs, American micro brews upstairs, taps rotate each week.
Bruisin Ales - beer store downtown for those who want a big selection
Appalachian Vintner - beer and wine store between Biltmore Village and downtown, great selection

Great Clark!
For those of us heading to Asheville for the Saturday morning meet-up....Where and what time?
One week to go and inquiring minds need to know....
Just make sure we get a big enough table to display all the cameras for a photo session.

Indeed...
I would suggest perhaps PM'ing Dave any contact info you may wish to provide. There is already a (private) list circulating.
Texting can be a real help as those who missed me at the BMW event will attest to!
At any rate, this is a multifaceted "end of summer break" trip for the family, so we are making a weekend of it.
Plans are seemingly a bit loose still, but I am planning on breaking away solo to join y'all for breakfast, a walk, maybe a beer/whisky/wine later or any combination of the above. My hotel is downtown so I will likely pop in and out. I selected it as it seemed close to Clark's mention of Wall Street -a rather central location. The only other "photographic" goal I have is to get to Ball Photo.
The rest of the time, you can find me floating in the pool with the kids!
