Plan to buy 50mm lens, found that I-50 50/3.5 rigid and J-8 50/2 close to my budget.

Need your opinion regarding these lens, if you have sample picture using these lenses will be helpfull.

Thanks

I have the I-50/3.5R and the J8.

Both were "fixed" by Brian for the Leica IIIf.

The first picture was done on a J8 while the other was captured on a I-50R.

I think the J8 is perfect for the "glow" when shot wide-open.

Both are nice lenses in different ways. The I-50 is possibly a tad sharper but the J-8 is a lot faster. An I-61 would be a similar price and is a sharp lens which gives quite high contrast and good colours. Try to avoid the late I-61s, not nearly as well made (and count on a re-lube - easy to DIY that though).

RayToei,
J-8 give more "glow" (in f2?), but I-50R not bad at all, good rendering.

Anyone want to add pictures, please......

I have a few dozen FSU 50mm lens most of which I've never used but here's couples of recent shots with a Kiev 4an Jupiter 8m 50/2 (I think it should be give similiar results to a J8 ?)

Not too bad and easy to use.

Wahoo,

Nice pictures, good detail contrast little bit high (on white wall and car) but still ok.
What film did u use when take those pictures?.

It's Kodak 400CN and Jupiter 8 M had a light yellow filter.

I have it processed at Tesco Supermarket for 99p and ask for it Uncut then reverse roll and leave in the bag for a coulple of days, remove, cut to lengths and then scan (if I can be bothered).😀

I'll see if I can find some I-61 L/D examples.

I would go for the J-8, F2 speed and Sonnar formula.

The I-50 is quite good, and I now have a very nice Collapsible. The Collapsible Mount lens is made in Brass, with a beautiful chrome finish. Well worth the few dollars more. But I got mine for fixing a few lenses for an RFF member.

What camera will you be using these on? "Typically", an FSU lens must be shimmed to focus properly wide-open and close-up on a Leica.

From my Collapsible I-50 on the M8, wide-open:

Detail crop of above. I shimmed this lens for wide-open and close-up, then removed the infinity stop to it would focus correctly "full-range".

I still feel like a total idiot selling mine with the bessa R. Realised after going through the pics that bit was the bessa i hated and not the lens... Brian if you have anymore shimmed J8's for Leica M's let me know.

Brian.
I use Leica M4-P, i saw your thread modified J lens for Leica.
If you have J8 for "Leica ready" in your stock, please inform me.
