Astia 120

Every time I shoot Astia with my GF670, the roll is a bit loose when I take it out. I had the same issue with both 120 and 220 and it happened almost every single time. On the other hand, I never had such issue with any other negative or slide film.

Anybody had such problem before?

Oh, I should add that in each occasion I happened to load the film on a Kodak spool.

I've had it happen but not only Arista 120. I just had it happen with Efke IR820 (120). That really makes you mad because of light leaks. My only remedy is to do normal film in very subdued light and I guess now I will put my camera in the changing bag when I take out and load my IR. Both of these films seem to be not quite as wide as Kodak. Maybe I'm wrong. Also their paper may not hold the roll tight.

Oh, I've never shot with the Efke film. The light leak is annoying but fortunately it only damages the edges which don't affect the actual images. I will try to use only Fuji spool from now on and see if it will improve. I still got at least 30 rolls of Astia in the fridge so I definitely need to solve this problem.

I shot over 100 rolls of Astia 120 working on a project a few years back. I frequently had to change film in Mamiya 7 standing on the bright beach at high noon. I never had any light leak problems. Since that was the only film I was shooting, it all went on the previous Fuji spool.

I primarily shoot Astia 120 film (just went through 25 rolls in the past couple months). I can't say I've ever had this happen. FWIW, I'm using a Rolleiflex.

As you're feeding the first turns of the paper leader onto the takeup spool, let your thumb drag a bit on the fresh roll to ensure the wrap starts out nice and tight. That's a good habit to get into for any 120/220 film, though!

And of course, careful when removing the exposed roll to hold it so it doesn't unroll. And if you drop the roll while holding the end of the paper trailer, well, I know what that's like!

Ya I do this every time. As I said, I never had any issue with any other film except Astia. It seems like the Kodak spool was the cause. I am gonna grab 20 fuji spools from the lab so I don't have to use Kodak spool again.

Right, I like the way the Fuji leader fits securely into the Fuji spool, a nice combination.
