NPR interview of Astrid Kirchherr -

I love her work and her talent. Without Astrid, would the Beatles have been as successful? I doubt it.

Yet she was unsure of her talent, so she gave it up.

"I wasn't sure if I'm really good or is it just the Beatles that made me, sort of in a way, famous? And I wasn't sure anymore if I'm good or not so I just gave it up."

NPR Reports

Based on a close reading of the Guardian obituary, I'm not sure she “gave it up” — she worked as a professional photographer through the 1970s, took a break to work as a designer, then started a photo agency in 1988 and continued to organize exhibits of her work until at least 2018. Her early association with the Beatles may simply have been a “lightning in a bottle” moment that never repeated itself. They were in the right place at the right time for her, and she was in the right place at the right time for them.
