Attaching a UV/IR Cut filter to the 15mm Heliar?

Peter Walnes was struggling getting me one so on his recommendation I managed to get and adapter from Robert Whites.

I am now fully filtered, coded and ready to go! 😀

Here's one of my first pics using it on the M8. 15mm is great fun. 🙂

What I did was find a 39mm B+W UV filter and took the glass out, then I ground off the male (rear) threads flush, and then expoxied it to the front ring of the lens just inside the hood fins. Basically, I added filter threads to the lens, so I could attach a 39mm IR-cut filter for the M8. Without a filter the adapter does not vignette on full-frame, so I can still use it on film.

Most elegant solution I have seen so far. I shoot the M8 and was considering a 15mm Heliar but the filter misery kept me off.

After seeing this, I might succumb after all!

I guess this is bumping this up a bit, but I just figured out a non-invasive, non-destructive method for attaching a filter to the LTM 15mm Heliar.

I used a pair of step-up rings. One is a 46-52mm, the other is a 52-67mm.

The inside of the 46mm ring can be smoothed out a bit and widened with a bit of steel wool to ensure it slips over the outside of the minuscule "hood" petals on the Heliar.

The 52-67mm step-up ring screws into the one mounted on the lens and the rest is academic.

My solution here is really secure. Probably a bit too secure, but my 15mm is not perfect so I'm not worried about scratching the hood petals very much.

I think I could have used a 48-52mm ring for the one which attaches to the lens and stuck some thin neoprene or felt to the inside of the ring for a bit more polished design.

This allows me to use the 15mm with filtration on my M4 without vignetting as well as on my soon to arrive M8. I already have a collection of 67mm filters used with S mount Bronicas so there is no reason for me to buy any more aside from a 67mm UV/IR cut filter for the M8.

The adapters are each less than $5USD.
