Argh ! That 50 1.2 is just too tempting... but then the seller only accepts checks and direct credit card 😕

And then what could I eat for the rest of the month, cookie crumbs !? 😛

I just finished a bag of Oreos and I think I have some stale vanilla wafers left, I'll send them to you if this will help 😀

Todd

Todd, you're an evil influence in this forum. I was so much in peace, not wanting anything in the world, when you posted the shot of your 'cron 90/2.

I have seen those, the kind with a tripod hole, I had told myself those lenses weren't cool, or not cool enough...

And they look wowish! 😀 🙂

Why did you do that? Like Brian, I'm saving my pennies for one. KEH had one and when I checked yesterday it was gone... 😡

And you want to be thanked for this? 😱

Oh, well, at some 20 bucks a month I'll manage to snatch one, sooner or later... 🙁

I had to take a look at a lens I was tracking on eBay: a Canon 135/3.5. It's sold... for $27.00! :bang:

Oh, well... it had to happen some time: I got the GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) again...

Actually, Joe, it was something like $28.50.

Yes, a Canon 135/3.5... with a small touch of fungus in an internal element, which, according to the seller, didn't cause a significant effect on images.

And again... :bang:

Maybe it's not lost and the lens went to some member of the RFF brotherhood, I think Brian was bidding on some of those as-is lenses 🙂

Btw, yesterday night I couldn't stand and bid for a Minolta Rokkor 45mm in LTM, only minimum bid and somebody put about $20 more in it, but again this demonstrates this forum is DANGEROUS 😛

LOL! I was looking at that lens too. It didn't end up going for much, and I really had to restrain myself. After all, I'm in gear disposal mode, not aquisition! Must stop! Argh!

On the other hand - the Canon 50mm 1.4 I recently obtained off the 'bay turned out to be terrific! Much better than advertised or described or even photographed. It had some dust on the outside of the front element - no scratches. Cleaned up like a champ, seems to be in terrific shape, maybe mint-. And I got it quite cheaply for a 50mm 1.4. Kind of makes up for all those 'mint' cameras that had frozen shutters. Well, some of them, anyway.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

Yes, it presents a challenge, an opportunity, and a gamble when the seller offers something that obviously needs cleaning.

A few months ago I took a chance an bid on a filthy 25/2.8 lens for Oly Pen-F. I was lucky, as it turned out most the dirt in the photos was glue dust and fabric residue from the deteriorating interior of the leather case.

It cleaned up easily and nicely, but surely inhibited other bidders, as the dirt could have concealed serious wear & damage, and it sold for a song.
