sounds like you guys will have a lot of fun! Governor's Island is really cool though it get's really, really crowded. I suggest meeting at the ferry and going over as a group if you're going to do that. Great views of lower Manhattan. I look forward to hearing all about it!

I'll trade you for your choice of assorted color print film if you like. More like a give and take. I presume 135.

Always good to see a regular. I'm going to try and sew a black canvas bag for a two camera kit. Been hitting Mid-town a lot, gathering materials.
Design intent is minimal padding, no inserts, make as small and compact as possible, no velcro, one handed opening.
I think I came up with a design that will suit three camera kit combos: Leica with 75 Lux and Leica with 35 Cron; Mamiya 6 with 50/4.0 and Rolleiflex 3.5F; or Tele Rolleiflex and Rolleiflex 3.5F (the famous Mermaid Parade kit).
Let's see how obsessive I am. Can I do it?
PLUG: February 2011 Meet-Up will be The Second Annual Leica M-Body Beauty Contest/Pagent. Next year's prize is a custom made camera bag. Judge will be Barrett. Finalists will be judged on either a one body two lens kit or two body two lens kit.
Carl is not eligible, but if he assembles a killer kit from his collection, he will get a custom made bag. Expect a gear feast and GAS. Hurry up and pimp out your rigs. In this years event Jeff's "Vintage M9 edged out John's "New" M9. Utlimately it became a brutal competition between Damaso's 0.85 M6 TTL with Rapidwinder and a M2 that had been freshly painted black with a rapidload upgrade. John's M2 looked new, but Damaso had the edge and won.

I think I will be in town next February, i had better get my gear in gear! So Cal, will you be making custom bags, ready to give it all up and start a business?

No kiddin'...since I scarfed Damaso's Bare Bones Bag before he left for Vienna-way (the Mama-Bear-sized version) I've been loving the thing, running 'round with the M2 (before I shortly have to give it back to its owner) and Contax Tvs, or one Hexar with same.
Oh...the meet-up? Yeah, as said before, I'll be there, possibly with a few prints in tow for door prizes. Don't say you read it here!

To me life is art, but, to those who know me well, I'm also a little crazy in an obsessive way. I own a Juki comercial sewing machine, just because I took one sewing class at FIT, so why not make some bags. The girlfriend is totally exploiting me and coming up with all kinds of creative projects. It seems because I have an attention span of a small annoying hyper dog that everything I do is a one off or custom. Because I'm so obsessive there are constant improvements and continuious evolution.
BTW I have struggled in the arts for decades, and I never-ever made any money making art. Right now I haven't even started sewing my first camera bag, and I figure that very nice custom dress shirt I learned to make last semester cost about $1.5K if you include the cost of the course and the Juki, but at least I have shopped and posess all the materials and notions to start this weekend to make a bag. Hopefully I'll have a very compact bag that has the bare minimum of padding that will contain either of my MF kits: either a Mamiya 6 paired with a Rolleiflex 3.5F "Whiteface;" or my Mermaid Parade kit (Rollei 3.5F paired with a version 1 Tele Rolleiflex. I hope to bring this bag to the next NYC Meet-Up.
I found a sample of Italian leather that is about a yard so I'm going to make a camera bag to go with my Panerai and Paul Smith "Runway outfit" as another extreame project. I want to keep up my reputation that made one girl say, "You are an Asian version of James Bond." LOL.
BTW my 1984 Jeep Scrambler with a Corvette engine that has a Ford nine inch rear is just another example of one of my passionate art projects. I use to do alternate side of the street parking when I lived in Greenpoint, and then I had a parking spot in the Southside of Williamsburg for many years before taking Gypsy off the road. Now I pay for storage.

Originally I signed up to go, but the fall semester is almost upon me and the summer for me is essentially over. I'm too busy with projects that need to get done.
Durstan, I'm also gotta empty the fridge again of exposed film, but this time its 120 and 220, perhaps 20 rolls if I empty my cameras and the spare film in my camera bag. I only have 20 rolls of TXP-320 in 220 in my freezer. Its been a good summer.

well, jsrockit, is it just you and me? i guess we can wait till next week to see if anyone else wants to join in before figuring out the details.
Cal, i don't want to hold up your developing schedule, so if you want to just let me know when you are developing some rolls, i can see whether or not i might be able to join in. embarrassingly, i've only got one completed roll of 320 shot...
btw, i would love to check out that corvette-engined Scrambler sometime

Soon the long days of summer will be gone, and we will have no choice. LOL. I'll still be shooting, but it will be unlikely that I will be able to set aside a weekend day every week to go shooting like we have. (John and a small group of others have been getting to gether to shoot regularly over the course of the summer.)
A men's tailoring class begins in the fall, and finally I will be able to wear pants that fit my skinny butt.
Tonight I am going to a reading because I need to get back to the literary world. I took a break from writing over the summer, but now I need to finish my book. The hardest part of writing a book is the ending, and I'm down to the last two chapters. I am lucky because I have an agent already that wants to see the completed manuscript when its done. Perhaps I will finally make some money doing art. LOL. (This was never my intention BTW. I have always had a day job.) This agent is a long time friend who told me,"If we can't use your material, I will help you find an agent who will." I'm hoping that her agency will represent me because it is very highly regarded and very elite. If you know how hard it is to find an agent, you would know how lucky I am. Next year on September 11th, it will be a decade that I have begun this project. I need to get this story out there, and now is the time.
For those readers who don't know me: I am a confused artist who does many things. The last time I was serious about photography was in art school decades ago; but I was a painter in the seventies and eighties; a performance artist and screenwriter in the ninties; and for almost a decade a literary writer. I only got back into photography and bought a Leica at the beginning of the credit crunch.
Not sure of how much time I have. I'm going back into art mode to try and do something that has an end and a new beginning. I'm sure we will shoot together some time... Soon I'll be getting up at 5:15 AM every morning before work to write. I hope you understand.

Gypsy isn't going anywhere. The transfere case has a bad bearing and is ready to explode like a hand grenade. This Jeep I bought when it was 4 years old and it only had 21K miles on it. Literally bought it from a little old lady in Santa Fe on a Christmas Eve. If I take account of the spedometer error due to the oversized tires Gypsy has over 200K miles on her. The front axel and the transfere case are the only original parts of the drivetrain.
BTW 350 HP, 400 foot pounds of torque. I have beaten SVO Mustangs in drag races from a gentle rolling start. Sounds like a Nascar on a straight away under full throttle. At idle the thump is deep and uneven. The tranny although a five speed, is really a three speed with both an underdrive (6.31:1) and an overdrive. In second gear from a stop, I can burn the clutch a little to get her going and then wind her up to eighty-five with just one gear because of the power to weight ratio with all that torque.
Not the kinda vehicle for my girlfriend to drive. Jeeps are not the safest vehicles BTW, especially this one. One day I hope to beautify her once again with a new fiberglass body. This will likely shed about 500 pounds. Without a top and the doors she is already under 3,000 pounds. Not many Scramblers were made, and they were produced only for three years.
