Thirteen is a magic number. The real reason why it is considered unlucky is that it promotes change and most people don't like change.

I heeded Phil's advice about going beyond 9 speed where the chains get thin and drivetrains wear out faster.

I took the steel IBIS and set it up as a 3x1 which uses the three chainrings for my spread of gearing. Because of size the chainrings are pretty durable.

I ordered a 24 tooth today to give me a real low gear. with a 16 tooth freewheel I get a 63 inch high gear, which is what Joe says is a Goldilocks gear for a road single speed. Off-road the Goldilocks gear is 51 inches for a single speed, so far all I need is a good low and I have with a 24 tooth a 36 inch gear for wheelies and climbing off road.

Although this bike is made of steel and has 16 straight gauge wheels with somewhat heavy rims the bike weighs just 22 pounds even. The build is kinda bombproof.

With a freewheel change to a 17 tooth I get a 59.29"-48"- and 33.88" for overall off-road gearing.

With an 18 tooth a 56"-45.33"-32"; and realize that 55 gear inches is the most favored BMX gear and 30 inches is standard "Trials" gearing. So this is basically for knarly technical stuff.

Should be kinda low maintenance almost like a single speed. Rather be riding than fixing bikes doing maintenance.

A$AP Rocky just got released. A while back "Maggie" was in one of his music videos. Pretty much we hung out with Rocky and his crew for about a day and a half in Sunset Park/Industry City.

Although I was not partying I kinda got a contact high from all the weed.

Of course. Also know that I have about 1 1/2 cubic feet of DVD's to recycle.

Trying to make space in my apartment and get rid of stuff that won't go into storage.

I think the entire series of Project Runway, Homocide, and I forgot the name of the series about post Katrina New Orleans.

Many murder mysteries and PBS stuff.

For Joe there is this DVD called Synopsis about a mountian bike racing season that goes back in the day.

Evidently this Japanese half hour broadcast TV show is a really big deal. There are two commentators that are part of the show, and this woman that is one of the hosts/commentators has over 9 million followers. The spillover could be very big. The interviews (me included) that were recorded in early July likely will cause a surge of sorts.

Separately In September expect "Maggie" to be on billboarded in New York City and L.A. for the entire month. This is the result of an earlier campaign that did very well and could be considered bonus pay for work already completed. Expect her to be spackeled all over those cities.

It seems that somehow I have played out a body of work about a redeveloped NYC. At the Agnes B. show preview for "Beyond The Streets" I did capture some interesting arial panoramas of Madhattan from Norman Street in Greenpoint along the waterfront. The foreground on the Brooklyn side has an oil storage facility, and construction rubble.

Later in the evening I captured a colorful sunset that displays mucho drama. Kinda marks an end to a body of work.

Lately I have been shooting more with telephoto lenses. This is very different for me since 28mm FOV is pretty dominant. When I walked from the Leica Store in SoHo to East Harlem over a hundred blocks, along the way I saw little to shoot and pretty much I felt played out.

Anyways something is changing. Also I'm down to 155 pounds after peaking earlier this year at 160. A year ago I was 150 which is an Ideal BMI for longevity to prevent heart disease. Anyways diet and exercise, and I think I'll hit my target weight by Labor day. Some days I'm 154.

So another goal becomes clear: Hudson or Beacon are the two rivertowns on the Hudson that are likely retirement destinations in perhaps 4 years.

I expect my 24 tooth chainring to arrive today. I'm excited. Trying to finish up open projects so I can move forward.

This three speed 3x1 mountain bike will be low maintenance. With the current 16 tooth freewheel it has gearing for both onroad and offroad, but with a simple freewheel change to 17 tooth I get optimized off road three speeds that I can do plenty of riding.

Cal, you should look into the Sturmey Archer freewheel kickback hub. I have one on my car MTB/commuter bike. Once that sweet spot gear is found, it is a perfect mix of cruising gear and climbing gear. I'll try to post a photo of my setup one of these days.

Indeed, maybe Maggie should be a little selective about jobs/travelling. A former colleague of mine who is of Turkish decent, went with her father for a business sourcing trip to Turkey and being of that heritage and speaking the language, she said she didn't feel safe and certainly not alone. If Maggie is staying in some major city and is there on location with a team, it should be ok.

Not every place is safe. Stuff happens.

"Maggie's" agent Max took a picture of her sitting in a lobby of a luxury hotel in L.A. "Maggie" posted this shot because it looked very glamorous and a follower inquired in a comment asking if that was our living room.

Pretty much the public thinks we are very wealthy. My biggest worry is that she could be targeted. If kidnapped I don't have the ransom.

There was some talk about a trip to Dubui for some tech conference, but I'm glad that it did not pan out.

Cal, for the utmost in personal safety Maggie, and others, should take Facekedo lessons. This is an ancient martial art wherein one can deter/encourage others with facial expressions. From birth, we learn how to read faces. There is great power in a smile and a frown. I've studied Facekedo for may years at the "If Looks Could Kill Dojo." Once one achieves black belt status, it's required to register their face as a lethal weapon. Sometimes, I look in the mirror and scare myself--such is the power of Facekedo. And best of all, Facekedo is a non-violent martial art. For if one rules with an iron fist, it can often result in bruised knuckles. Namaste. 🙂

Dan,

The Malcom Gladwell book "Blink" reveals a lot about facial expressions and first impressions.

No joke that reading and being aware of body language, facial expressions, biases, and predudice is a useful skill.

Not everybody has developed these skills.

I think if you street shoot with a 28 these skills come in handy.

I killed my 3880. One day the capping station became like an exploded diagram.

I called Joe and Christian to recycle the carts, maintenance carts, and chip resetters. Christian called first.

The 3880 due to the paper transport had limitations and presented difficulties for me. I still have the Epson 7800 I call the Jersey Barrier that utilizes muffin fans to pull a vacuum as part of the paper transport. Also I would say the 7800 makes better prints, and I can print larger (24 inch wide). I love using roll paper because I save money (cheap-cheap-cheap).

If I ever get another printer it will be a floor standing "pro" model. For me the 3880 had limitations and was too small a printer.

Currently the 7800 is in storage mode loaded with Piezoflush. I have a set of OEM dampers to replace the factory originals that need to be replaced. I only get a few prints before I develop banding due to clogs.

Particles have accumulated in the dampers that feed the print head. A fresh set of dampers (about $350.00 for OEM ones, not the cheap Chinese knockoffs) and I should be good-to-go for a few years.
