New York August NYC Meet-Up

What time?

Dennis,

I should be there around noon. I tend to be the first there to reserve space.

The location is the Bohemian Beer Garden in Astoria. The M60 bus first stop after going over the Triborough leaves you two blocks away.

Not sure if the Subways are still mucked up.

I'll be recycling mucho DVD's. The one series I forgot the title of, post Katrina New Orleans, is Treme. Eventually I remembered the title.

Can't see either of my two previous postings re: time of Sunday's August meet-up not either of Cal's recent postings. And, yes, I'm logged on.

A body was found near the pool in Central Park yesterday morning and was deemed a homocide and possibly that the dead person was homeless. This was reported on the Internet in the New York "local" news.

I watched the TV broadcast news last night and no mention was made of this crime, but instead there was a report of two perps in Central Park who first robbed an elderly man of his wallet, and a second incident where a 20 year old was again attacked by two perps and was mugged for his cell phone.

Note that the Pool is near where I live in East Harlem. I use to walk Baby-Dog over there all the time, but the two muggings, lesser crimes, were reported because they happened lower in the park near streets in the 60's.

I say crime is down because it is under reported. In this case two muggings were reported and the homocide discounted. Further discount because the person killed might of been homeless.

Looks like I have to drag out the handtruck again due to all the DVD's. Pretty much two shopping bags worth. Perhaps better might be a shopping cart because they are not heavy books.

I watched "Synopsis" last night. In my wanderings I found this DVD on the 2004 NORBA World Cup. Many of the champions featured were not Americans, in fact there were very few Americans. One of the locations was Snowshoe in West Virginia where Iron Mike and I would do vacation rides.

The film covered the gravity events 4X and downhill. It lacked coverage of crosscountry racing, but the footage did well in recreating the events of the 2004 season, and I would say the editing was rather great, but the sound of the sparse interviews was poor due to using just the on camera mike. The talent should of been miked.

So pretty much a dated film pre-29'er. Already suspension bikes were popular, and this film could also be looked upon as a prelude to the "X-Games" that would come later and other extreme sports.

I think Joe would like it.

"Maggie" has an overnight trip to Pittsburg for an academic meeting that involves a grant. She decided to do this academic gig for the money just to have a backstop and some diversity to her income. On one hand I understand that this is for safety, but I kinda knew that I would hear the bitching and moaning that would come from this responsibility and obligation.

Oh-well... "What is the point of retiring?" I ask.

I have "Fort Apache The Bronx" to watch. This DVD I also found in my wanderings. Last time I saw this film was back in the day when it was first released. My goal is to recycle this DVD too.

The complete "Doc Martin" series that I believe went on for 8 years is available. Really great if you love British comedy. About a medical doctor who is very rude and quirky who has a gig in a small fishing town. What makes this series so charming is that the comedy is character driven, and know that Doc Martin lacks social skills.

Wish I could make it to the garden but I'll be in N Cali. See ya in September. All the American people I know who truly lack social skills seem something more like sinister than quirky.

We'll be in NYC sometime next week. If you see a guy who looks like me in Manhattan or Brooklyn, with a Billingham Hadley pro on his shoulder, a Gossen Luna Pro around his neck, shooting a Bell and Howell 70DR with three shiny lenses, that's probably me. Then again, I'm starting to look like a lot of folks out there. Or maybe, they are starting to look like me... I've never stopped shooting film, many are just getting into it.

Chris,

If you want I save the Doc Martin DVD's for you. Unlike the people you mention above that lack social skills, Doc Martin is a lovable character.

I wish what you mentioned wasn't true.

On another note, I basically filled a shopping cart with DVD's and books for Joe. With my hair down expect seeing a rather savage looking American who might be mistaken for a homeless person.

I wonder why so many people love me when I'm so annoying. Perhaps I have that Doc Martin effect.

Never been to the Astoria Beer Garden, sounds like fun

Helen,

Available is every season of "Project Runway" in DVD.

This is said to be the biggest outdoor beer garden in NYC.

Plenty of new faces too. Landrew has a big crew.

Know that I'm creating "Woodstock 3" even though Woodstock 50 got cancelled. I'll be wearing a tie-die from Woodstock 2 that is one of 650 ever made acording to my friend "Weasel" who designed the shirt.

Know that "Maggie" hates some of my clothes, and that Woodstock 2 T-shirt is one of the shirts she will ask me not to wear when we go out. LOL.

How annoying is that. Anyways it is a very loud T-shirt.

Yesterday's workout was walking home with a 40-45 pound backpack loaded with 5 quarts of body lotion, 4 quarts of olive oil, and some modular storage containers.

I feel this load bearing exercise today. It was a slow 3 mile walk yesterday in the heat. Add onto that the walk from 59th Street to 72d Street during lunch with this load.

The pack at least saved my hands. Save $40.00 using coupons. I had 48 coupons and now I only have 40. Cheap-cheap-cheap. Pretty much I warehousing stuff before tariffs kick in and inflation begins.

I took note that IRobot vacuums have come down in price. The trick here is to maintain open floor space to assist efficientcy. Perhaps the spillover from my ploy will contain some of "Maggies" spillover of clothes, shoes, and bags.

In yesterday's local news (NYC) there was a report of a 19 year old being raped shortly after leaving the 96th Street and Lexington subway (6 train).

Again not reported on the TV broadcast news. Pretty much this is the nearest subway stop to get to the Rochard where we have Meet-Ups.

5 quarts of body lotion, 4 quarts of olive oil...when's the orgy?

MFM,

As a person of color I use to have oily skin. Perhaps my oily skin is one reason why I look so young, and maybe another reason is that at the age of 61 1/2 I'm still a skinny bitch.

The Pericone Diet helps fight inflamation, and evidently I suffer from dry skin that gets inflamed. Recently I tried to increase my fat intake, and in the past eating supersized McDonalds meals for lunch every day made my skin soft like a baby's, but now I gain weight and can't do that.

A year ago I was 150-151 pounds, I peaked a little over 160 before deciding that eating mucho fat was not healthy, and now through diet and exercise I'm at 154 pounds today.

I consume about a quart of olive oil every three weeks, and a quart of moisturizing lotion every 3-4 weeks. Inflamed skin is uncomfortable and is like suffering burns.

Last night my blood pressure was 100/60 and my resting pulse below 50 BPM. Pretty much I have the genes to live past 100, and my dad who was poor, was illiterate, and had a brutal life lived till 94.

I have to work on upper body strength, and then pretty much I'll have the body from "Canadian Ninja Warrior" with abs. I kinda have abs now as well as small love handles.

As far as orgies go, those were when I was younger. Now sex is kind of a spectator sport. LOL.

So here is the delusional dream of an artist: "Maggie" says there is an event coming up that involves a great designer; a video will be released that involves Maggie; and this designer also has branched into menswear.

So call me an exhibitionist, artists by definition are exhibitionists, but there could be a possibility of me modeling clothes, walking the runway during New York's Fashion Week, or being dressed by a designer to accompany Maggie to fashion shows.

Not so big a jump.

MFM,

About two weeks ago I went to the grocery in my hood (East Harlem) with "Maggie."

I heard some girl say, "Look at that. Its so tight." then the other girls says, "That's so cute."

Pretty sure that Maggie did not put things together, but I believe the two girls standing right behind me were commenting on my small muscular bike butt.

Those two young girls at my age might kill me. LOL.

Cal

Wow, this seems to be an event :)

robert

Robert,

Seems like the body of work that began in 2007 and spans a dozen years that documents a changing NYC post housing crisis is ending for me. A few weeks ago I walked over a hundred blocks from the Leica Store in Soho to East Harlem to my home, and I didn't really shoot much at all. Pretty much was just exercise.

This world that "Maggie" has entered is now presenting some shooting opportunities. I don't know how or where I fit in.

Maggie's original agent from London asked me if I would consider walking the runway in London. She mentioned the brand which was basically urban street wear.

If anything I would say I'm odd looking if anything. For sure I stand out in a crowd. LOL. Kinda funny seeing the head of an older man on a youthful body.

I can see me being a street wear model. I look urban and ghetto. LOL.

Then again I would do great promoting Patagonia the outdoors brand. I'd make a great "Ambassador."

If anything, I am finding life surprising with its twists and forks. Some of which do require effort for them to appear and take. If you have a choice try it.

It's a funny way to think of you as a streetwear fashion but looking at it "vintage hipster" fits a lot. Aside of the urban aspect

I tend to notice a more trendy street here in Scandinavia and 18-22 yo kids wear fanny packs with 1980s-early 90s design. Bucket hats and fanny packs. Fila used to be a low tier "uncool? Dads?" brand until last year, now it is everywhere! Just had a discussion about that with my friend.

Came back from a concert and the videographer was wearing Patagonia, large back logo. I'm seeing it quite often.

I'll have to bring my oversized gold 49ers nylon jacket. Given trends... 1989 or 2019?

The 80s are cool again. There are some sites coining a "30 year old cycle of nostalgia" based on what the creators are infusing from their childhoods. Interesting

So I don't think it's that far off
