One for Aussies with access to SBS - Kubrick's Barry Lyndon is on tonight at 13:35. I've never seen it, but through this forum I learned that it was filmed with f/0.7 lenses specially adapted to allow Kubrick to shoot by candlelight. I'm looking forward to seeing it later tonight, just to check out the bokeh and the focusing depth-of-field. Should be interesting!

Barry and Pull Focus
Hi Chris
Greetings from Sunny Queensland. Its a bit past my bedtime but I will try and stay up.
I saw the film in the seventies. I do remember a lot of long tele shots and lots of pull focus FX . Yes there were a few candle lit scenes.
Maybe have some java and check it again.

It was probably the most boring film Kubrick ever made, but I do remember that it was visually stunning.

I would easily call this the most beautiful film ever made, every shot is perfectly composed.

A boring and over-photographed film with no substance.
Despite Kubrick's fame as a serious director, his best film IMO is Dr. Strangelove - that also thanks to a great scrip and Peter Sellers.
